Truck Rentals?

New truck, old 5th wheel, height issues

I plan on towing a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 from Lemoore, CA to Oklahoma City, OK.

Is it OK, using a U-haul tow dolly, to just place the transfer case in neutral and tow the Dodge Ram?

Thanks

Perfectly fine to just put the transfer case in neutral, manual shift transfer case that is, I don't know about electronic shift transfer cases.

Just pull the rear drive shaft, leave the slip yoke in, and tie it up GOOD under neath :D

Our auto mechanic instructor restored a 69 road runner back in 78 and had one of our class mates tighten the rear universal joint. He didn't tighten it good enough and when a guy came to test drive the 69 road runner lets just say it needed to be restored again. bent drive shaft through the trunk. not pretty.

OUCH, I bet he wasnt happy.

I would also say that taking the transfer case into nuetral will work, but... ..... on my truck (manual case) it has some "wear" and I believe with all the bumps and thrashes that a towed vehicle goes through, mine would fall "into" gear, this could be bad also @ 70mph in holiday traffic. :D

I know on manual transmissions that you are supposed to put the transfer in nuetral and the transmission in high gear. If its an auto Im not sure. I wouldnt worry too much about a transfer case jumping back into gear towing it if it doesnt do it when you are driving it.
