What CAN'T a Cummins tow?

Family Truck Campers Association!

5er is 10,640 lbs. I hauled 12,320 lbs of wood plus trailer at 23,720 gross was the heaviest I have weighed. ez, 275 injectors and stock clutch at 38,000 miles. 01 2500

Have not towed with the powermax, but with dd3's and ez, at sea level and 9000 pound trailer, egt's great and i drive it hard. Actually broke a traction bar mount racing another truck from a start while towing the 5er. I have the south bend, but i have the 6 speed. I have been told that the center hub on the six speed is much stronger than the 5's.

See sig, I tow 6500 lbs and no clutch slip when towing because I dont push it with trailer on. Without trailer it slips bad when boost goes over 20 in 4th + 5th. Your right foot is your friend and enemy.

I tow a couple of things quite often I move my bro-inlaws back hoe around. Never weighed it but it probibly in the 16 - 20K range. When i hook my house trailer it's like nothing 6800 lbs.

I don't drive as hard when towing, worry about pulling the hitch off my trailers.

I am running a SBC Con O right now and it's holding great.

With my old HX35/16 I would have to kick the cruise off and drop to 70 MPH on some of the hills up here in Utah to keep the EGTs under 1250.

The bombing on my truck has made it one great puller and the milage is alot better towing now than it was stock.

I gross over 24K towing and have no problem staying with the "flow of traffic". In o. d. , boost runs about 12 - 14 and EGT's about 900 - 950. If either starts getting high, shift out of o. d. My mileage towing is 11. 5 - 12. 0 and non-towing 20 - 21. See sig.

Depending what I'm towing I gross between 12 and 19 k, no slippage at all mildly bombed, about 9000 miles towing at 19k, no babying the truck.

My buddy tows with all the banks goodies, factory 6-speed clutch, grossing 23-24k, no problems with the clutch either. His ride probably has 25,000 tow miles like this. good luck!

I'm towing about 12K. Last trip I zinged up pretty good sized hills far short of max boost at 60 MPH. Hit many hills in West Texas I10 at 70 and never took it out of 6th. Did slow to almost 60 on a couple of steep ones.

EGT stayed below 1000 (post turbo) entire trip. Stock clutch. Couldn't be happier.

Pulling BOMBed...

Fellow Rammers:

I pull my 15. 3K lb Travel Supreme with PM-3 adjustable set on 6. Anything above is too hot. I run in 6th at 70 on level ground, EGTs around 750. Max EGT going up 6% grade was around 1,200 degrees. Stock clutch has held up well, no problems towing. I already have a South Bend clutch Con Fe O for running empty in power level 9. I've smoke the clutch 3 or 4 times playing with Ferds, Chevys and other Rams.

Man, this engine sounds great with a heavy load runnig down the road. Ahhhrrrggg!
