Towing from Gardnerville NV to Tampa area

I am leaving this Sunday going to Tampa for a few months and was wondering if anyone knows why the computer models all say I should take I-80 east and turn south in Nebraska. I was planning on going south from home through Vegas to I-10 all the way to Florida. Is I-10 in such bad shape it isn't recommended? Any opinions on the road conditions would be appreciated... ... ..... BK

I don't know !

But you could go there one way and come back the other. You get to see more of the country that way and when you get home you'll know the answer.

If you can stay AWAY from I-10. That is one of the roughest, dreary roads. I have to take I-10 fairly often in buisness and wish there was another way to go. There is also a lot of construction from mid texas all the way to I-75 in FL. Just not a pleasant road to travel.

Not that you would get as high as Atlanta, but I75 south of Atl and north of Macon has serious construction both north and south bound.



Went I75 north about a month ago and navigator got us onto Ga backroads near the outlet malls just south of Atl. Turned out to be interesting scenery, but took much more time than expected.

Don't know about west of Pensacola but Pensacola to I-75 is finished and pretty smooth. I-75 south to Tampa isn't bad at all with the only construction right now being malfunction junction where I-4, I-75 and I-275 come together.

rKortan, IMHO, there ain't much to see on I-10 thru Texas. El Paso has a strange smell coming from a refinery every evening. If I remember right, the mile marker for I-10 in Beaumont, TX (east end of state) reads like 898 miles from El Paso. You can take a solid day to go thru Texas and get bored doing it. Houston does have a beautiful skyline at sunset, which you may get to see a couple of times if traffic is normal



Now, once you leave there, the rest of the interstate should be good riding with a lot of different scenery. There are casinos in LA near Baton Rouge that light up the night. Biloxi, MS also has casinos and I usually stay in one because the food is plentiful and the rooms are reasonable. From Biloxi east, you are seldom more than a few minutes from the beach if you want to cool off or get a good seafood meal.



Also, your map software may be routing you the quickest route or shortest route. Most can be changed from one or the other with the click of a button. HTH

Thanks to all. I'm off on a 3 month adventure to Florida. I think I'll look for someone near Tampa to bump my timing up to 15. 5 this fall. I'll not be near a computer for a couple of weeks but I plan on going to a public library to keep in touch with the TDR forums... ... ... ... Thanks... ... ..... BK

What you say about W Tejas is true, but have you driven across Nebraska???? Corn! as far as the eye can see, corn and more corn. Just as monotonous, only it's green.

When you get to Florida give send me a e-mail and I will give you the name of a private mechanic that works strictly on the CTD. I have recommneded him to a few of the guys and all where very satisfied with prices and quality of work. He is cummins certified and was the area trouble shooter for other dealers on the CTD when other mechanics parts changers) could not figure out the problem.

Recently went across I-10 to Galveston.

From Lafayette, LA to Orange Texas is pretty bad. Lots of construction and delays. The part of the road that is not under construction will bounce you bad.

If your towing, the trailer will really take a beating.



I would catch I-20, don't known if that is any better, and come down to I-10 in Mississippi on 49.
