Bignasty, I've made several similar horseback, packing trips into the High Uintas in Northeastern Utah for a week at a time. Great fishing.

Horse is the only way to fly. Im thinking that my hunting day's are done I got one this year and it just seemed like I had done enough KILLING. I think there comes a time that is true and that time has come. We had some friends up from Calif and it was the most fun I have had in a long time. Showing off our part of Montana is something that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Some came to hunt and I had no problem's with that fact is I encouraged them TO hunt as it is something I have enjoyed from the age of 10. Some were the guy's that I worked with as drivers some were still the ones I worked with but they were the boss's. The wife's were the most fun guys will not say to much about the beauty of the mountains but women just blurt it out most were ah struck. It's hard to explain to someone that has never been this far away from civilization and the vastness of the MT mountains. Even in pic's it's not the same. Most were quite content to just sit and take it all in. Even my kid's came up and they have been doing this sense they were in diapers. They have live's of their own and need time to RELAX and let all the problems of life, left at the trail head go. The biggest misconception in living in the mountains most thought that tent's had to be a bummer and that food would be bland and unexciting. Nothing could be further from the truth with horse's and mules. They really didnt expect sleeping like they did ( the altitude did most of that) and the food was totaly unexpected. One of our best friends said that she could eat the A** of one of my mule's (and she's Vegetarian) That she could go for a beer and a steak. That nite she got a beer and a 3in thick steak the look on her face was something to see. I told her that room service brought it up. The wife and I are thinking of starting a horseback camping deal. Just take them out to see the sights and fish. Hunting is allot of work and we will alway's help my BIL out with that. But with the economic times the way they are not as many people can afford the hunt. Horseback is still a viable option for most to get 50 or 60 miles out and be affordable. All food for thought

Ill try but it's hard :-laf most rode rite on by YA GOT TO LOOK AROUND ;) And non hunters say that with gun's we have the upper hand

Start correcting me any time but me thinks I spot something that looks like firewood branches, but it ain't. Look at the middle of the picture.

Bignasty, looks like you are living the life that lots of us in reality know nothing about.

Happy trails and safe travels to you all.

GCroyle it's a learning experience every day. My son and I stoped because he had a 10/100 break and my knee was killing me. We were just standing there looking around and the FIREWOOD moved. My son was going to shoot the FIREWOOD no need to shoot the twigs. We stood there admiring him for about 15 min before he spooked. This is not him but they look so proud when standing there. A few year's from now this guy will be a dream come true for some lucky hunter.

Dam you caught me now ill have to move back to Calif ? no way I wont go I do miss some things in Calif. 1 it's real hard to catch a 100 pound Tuna. Ocean fishing was something I really got into. Freshwater fish are all mushy and dont make good Fish Taco's. 2 GOOD Mexican food these folks think Taco Bell or Dell Taco is the real deal. 3 delivering fuel to the stations on the beach all those bikini's I really miss them ( no guldump they werent the guy kind of bikini's) 4 driving down the hwy looking at the skirts in the car next to me. I really hated it when they had 1 leg on the dash ! it put everything down there out of alinement and made it look like Willie Nelson with a broke jaw

BIGNASTY,

I read the above and trying to comment and keep everything civilized is a bit tough.

How 'bout back to Big Sky Country and leave CA to itself.

I got an aging Uncle in Polson, been several years since I visited him, sure wish I had the chance. He tells the tale that he and his fishin buddy crested the highway coming in from the south, saw Flathead Lake and said end of the trail, we're staying here. From where I am here in SC no clue where you are but in the grand scheme, I'd find it somehow just for a overnight or two and some camp cooking.

Flathead lake is the biggest natural lake west of the Mississsipppisssi I could never spell that on my log book so I didnt drive east of the Mississsippissii , Flathead lake is about 100 miles north of me. Went there a couple of time there were white caps the wind was blowing so hard. Do they still live there?

BIGNASTY,

He is still there, but getting a bit older. Sharp as a combat knife ever could be. Born in a coal mining town in SW PA, USMC Korea Veteran, Corsair pilot shot down 2X, retired flight instructor for United. We have gone over his scrap book stuff, still remembers every face in the fading B&W pics, pilot's log book signed by John Glen.

This was taken in GNP in '07.

My wife, who was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, was taught in grade school to spell Mississippi this way; M, i, crooked letter, crooked letter, i, crooked letter, crooked letter, i, humpback, humpback, i. But you've got to say it fast.
