B&W Turnover GN - Self Install?

5th gear/2400RPM or 6th gear/1700RPM???

Fireman. Not bad at all for $100 and you gained 1. 4 mpg. That's great. I looked them up on the internet and found them at Camping World for $53. 10 plus $15 shipping. The description and picture look the same.

You and I have the same truck and camper. Only difference is that my truck is not the Sport.

Now if you want a fiver that has a barn door for a front, look at mine. It don't get any worse than that. #ad

Ken,

They are made by Wingmaster Company. They have 2 versions for high profile trailers.

Aerotravel III - mill finish (brushed) aluminum

Turbo Wing IV - polished stainless

Uhhh, Grizz, I think that $53 is for the mounting kit. The Aluminum Aerotravel III that CW carries is more in the neighborhood of $450 I think.

Don, you might win the prize, that is pretty flat !

Don/TX,

It appears that all the corners are radiused on your 5'er.

Years ago, U-Haul did some aerodynamics testing & found that radiused corners provided good aerodynamics & started building all their trailers & truck boxes with them.

The Titanium really looks good in so far as aerodynamics goes. They have an extra "nose cone" that looks like it extends over part of the cab of the tow vehicle.

my 99 auto 4x4 2500 4. 10 pulling a 10K travel trailer got 11 mpg towing 65mph.

my 06 auto 4x4 3500 drw 3. 73 pulling a 15K fifth wheel gets 11 mpg towing 65mph.

I agree, I think he is reading console mpg number... . which btw both trucks were always over by 2mpg compared to hand calculations.

I'll bet 'ya that little SUV is a bit overloaded pulling the 5er. Oo.

The Mrs got a laugh out of that:):):),---believe me she is pushing me to get her own diesel---she want a 07-5. 9,3500,sw, quad cab, loaded, Laramie 4x4 auto. We just bought that trailer this year for our lake lot,so we should have it paid for in a couple of years then maybe we will find a slightly used one for her. THIS IS WHAT I PULL IT WITH+SUPERGLIDE 24k HITCH --HOPE YOU LIKE---DW. :D:D:D

I was really quite surprised how well it does at speed, I tend to drive it around 70. I have toyed with the idea of some sort of bullet nose to attach for towing. Sure wish I could afford a big wind tunnel.

:-lafwhen i saw the 15. 9 i kinda laughed. I just got back from a trip up the coast and my overhead said just that, 15. 9. In reality, my truck gives me 13-14 with a 9000lb 5er. I did actually get a 15mpg run but that was coming down from the sierras with a big tailwind most of the way.

Sam

NCook,

I have about 18K on mine and I get around 11-12 MPG pulling my 5er most of the time. This is hand calculated. The overhead read out will read +2 of calculated. Optimistic.

Have a great time camping!

In 4 long trips with the truck below, pulling a 29 ft Golden Falcon 5er has got hand calculated 12. 5 to 12. 7 each time... ... . wonder what ULSD will yield?

My 95 Scotty Motor Home Cummins gets 10 to 14

The faster I go the less I get. I pull a car trailer with a 39 Ford and it don't hurt the mileage as much as when I run 65 to 70. I tried to post two pictures only one came out of my two 39 Ford that I play with.

Fireman,

Thanks for the info. I know this is 2 days later, but first time I've checked back in. I'll look into the Wingmaster.

I get 8-10 if lucky!!!LOL

Since getting my new 40' 3 axle TH, my mileage has dropped to about 9 and any wind, 6-8 MPG. Tires are fully inflated, everyting I can do is done, except power mods... Weighing in at about 14,500

My old TH, 2 axle and 2 ft less , I got 11--12 on a good day. . :)

Those are really nice cars. As much as I hate Ford now I am partial to those older Ford and Mercury, especially with the flat head V8. I've had two 50 Mercurys and one 51 Mercury. Wish I still had them. I am currently looking for a flat head V8 Ford pickup or a 47/48 Ford or Mercury Coupe with the flathead V8.

OK here's a post from a 6. 7 owner. We are getting 9. 8mpg hand calculated all around towing a Titanium trailer like DWeiler's. The truck has got only 4400 miles on it so far so it isn't even broken in yet.

It's funny you mention the display mpg. When not towing, I usually drive the same roads and speeds back and forth to work each day, and rarely use the truck for anything else but work or towing the trailer for a vacation. The displayed mpg is only 0. 5 higher than the hand calculated when I am just using the truck to go to work. I guess it must have something to do with how it averages the fuel usage??
