I have a 01 3500 auto with just under 10,000 miles. We just went up to Mich. last week to pick up our new trailer. I have been getting 19 mpg empty give or take and have been very happy with that. When pulling the trailer [8000 lbs. ] the first couple of tanks I averaged 10. 8, a lot of this was in the mountains and I was running 60,65 sometimes 70. When we got closer to home mostly flat land I made sure we stayed under 60 and we got 11. 2. I was hoping for a little better towing mileage but I am not sure if this is about normal or not. I did the math on all these figures, trip computer seems to be about . 5 off. Any one have any tips on doing any better towing.

I have a 2000 ram 3500 dualie 4 X 4 and pull a 15,000 lb fifth wheel. I have the 4:10 rear end and the tow package and I get about 12 mpg towing on mostly level ground and about 10. 5 around the mountains. Empty I get about 16 mpg. With a 11. 5', 4,200 lb pickup camper I get 12. 5 mpg. I have 16,000 miles on mine. I would say you are probably getting about average. It will improve as you put more miles on it. At first I was only getting about 9 mpg.
