EBramwell, I don't have any vibration in my mirrors at idle, and hardly any going down the road. There is some slight vibration going down a rough road but not excessive. They are a world better than the slide on tow mirror extensions I was using. You might have to recheck the nuts for tightness, 40 ft. lbs. sounds way high to me unless you meant 40 in. lbs. If I remember right they were 6mm studs and standard torque for those is 4 to 9 ft. lbs. I tightened mine by feel.
I'm not sure if I'm answering your control knob issue but I had to grind a relief area in the back corner of the switch, with my die grinder, to clear the rear mirror stud and nut. Before I did that the stud was pushing on the control knob switch enough to push my door panel away from the door leaving a pretty good gap. Everything looks good now.
Regards, Mike.

I had the non powered towing mirrors before, and bought the powered ones from the listing here. I also got a joystick switch from the junkyard. Hmmmmmm, I keep blowing the fuses too! Haven't gotten into it to figure it out. I don't believe that I caught any wires in the install either.

Don't know what the average price fokes are paying for the Kool-Vue Dodge tow mirror, electric/heated but speedycarparts.com has them for $106. 00 each.

Don

Has anyone bought these lately, I see they have them at Fender World has anyone bought from them.

Bought mine from Fender World along with the brackets. So far all is good and working properly, yesterday morning I used the heat for the first time to clear a little fog off the glass with no problems.

Put mine in a while ago and used a switch from the junkyard. They moved very little and then shorted out. Don't have the heat hooked up yet. Maybe a new switch? Dunno.

Same here put a new switch in and still nomatter what way i push teh knob the mirrors go down#@$%!

the heaters work

Yeah, I thought these aftermarket mirrors were a plug and play kinda thing. Guess not. I have the powred wiring native to the truck although mine came with the non powered towing mirrors standard. I was going to source the heater switch and hvac plate from another vehicle as well. I wonder if that wiring is already in the truck or I'll have to figure out something else for that as well. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew.

ESorensen,

I didn't do the aftermarket... I did the hybrid 2nd gen/3rd gen mirror mix, but my 02 SLT had wiring in place for the mirror in the doors and had wiring in the HVAC controls for the heater switch. I could have wired a switch, but I wanted factory look, so I bought the HVAC controller w/ the heater sw buit in. About $80 at the dealer.

Wiredawg

i think my joystick controller is bad. I'll eventually purchase the hvac front with the heated switch for the mirrors as well. i believe the wiring for the heated portion is already in the dash as well.

Does anyone know if these will fit a 98?

Sorry I read the whole threadand answered my own question. Thanks for all who pre answered.

I'll add this link for those that are new to this thread. I've put this web page together which covers using the Kool-Vue heated towing mirrors on all of the '94 - '06 Rams. It has a summary of information from many posts from several mirror threads, and shows how to wire the '94 - '97 trucks.

Dodge Ram - Towing Mirror Upgrade Information- '94 to '06

This talks about getting the reinforcement brackets from Dodge although I see that places like Fenderworld now source them.

This is awsome thank youOo.

Sometimes it is a struggle to just get the right parts. First I couldn't get any mirrors, now I have 2 sets of them!

I will make someone a great deal on a set of these. Make me an offer, the wife wants to know why there are 2 sets in the shop, and just 1 truck

If anyone has their old set that was removed, I might be interestd in taking them off your hands if you want to get rid of them. I'm looking for the flip-out towing mirrors.

Has anyone else purchased theirs from the speedyautoparts.com site? At $106 each from them it seems like the best deal on these mirrors. I've got the power / heated standard (non-towing) mirrors on my 99 and hoping that it should be just a quick bolt on and plug in install for me. The glass in both of my mirrors is cracked now and I'm thinking of going up to the towing mirrors instead of just replacing the glass in mine. I'm sure I'll need the plates for them as my mirrors now are the regular mirrors and not the towing ones.

Mainly just wanting to know if anyone has had good luck buying them from speedyautoparts.com?
