Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Towing mirrors

Need some quick recommendations: What has anyone found to be the best towing mirror for the 2001 2500 short box? The dodge boys have a towing mirror for this year/mod. but it does not have power or heat , which my non-towing mirrors have. What say you... ...

I use the accessory mirrors which slide over the existing mirror housing. Just used on those infrequent RV towing trips around the state and once a year to Florida. Don't tow in cold weather, so heat function isn't really needed (although a little over a week ago we did wake up to snow on the TT and frozen water lines. Been taking a long time to get Old Man Winter outta here).

i hate to say it but i wonder if you could adapt the chebby tow mirrors onto a 2nd gen? they extend out and have power and heat. looks like about the same window design?

Look at either www.genosgarage.com or at Camping World. They both have CIPA extendable towing mirrors. They have a set for your application, Genos part# CIPA-DG-73500 $369. 00. They are electric/heated and extendable. I have had these mirrors for almost 2 years and I love them. Hope this helps.

I have the older style CIPA mirrors on my truck and love them. I can see around my 37' 5th wheel when I tow, and that is saying a lot for my shortbed truck and that big trailer.

I have the power and heat, and wouldn't do it otherwise.

I love them.

Worth every penny.

Do a search for tow mirror conversion or mod... I found some 03 power/heated mirrors at a local dismantler and bought a set of '01 non-power mirrors from the dealer(you need them for the door mount portion) and then put the power/heated mirrors heads on the '01 mirror bases and wired it up!



Works perfect and you'll love 'em! My total was less than $350 and I'm really happy with them.

I almost did the tow mirror swap from the 3rd gen, but I didn't want to hassle with finding two sets of mirrors, putting them together, and all for about the same cost as just buying a new set of CIPA mirrors. And the CIPA mirrors are considerably larger then the stock mirrors.

I am not sure which stick out further, but mine are good enough to reach around my wide trailer, and the trailer is pretty close to the cab with my setup.

I still like the factory look of swapping the 3rd gen's on. But I wanted simple, and larger.

And I just installed them a couple days ago. There is a lot of info here on them. I got them because I tried towing with the regular mirrors & just couldn't see anything plus I dig the way they look. They cost around $375 which I could not justify for purely aesthetic reasons but once I got the trailer they made sense. They do look a little like Ford- oops I mean F*rd mirrors but that is fine with me. I love the way those Superdutys look. Too bad they use the wrong engine.

I use McKesh mirrors, which can be removed when not towing. They are great. I tried slip on mirrors first and found that the right side mirror could not be adjusted to allow me to see the side of the trailer and behind the trailer.
