Can anyone tell me which, between the Lucern and the Powervision mirrors, extend out the furthest? Hay season is comming and I tow my goosneck with big round bales and need all the mirror I can get.

Thanks, Kim

The Power Visions extend 6 inches. I am pretty sure the Lucerix (sp??) extend about 4. 5 inches. If you want super extensions, you can get med. duty tow truck mirrors that will extend 5 ft. on each side. That should be all the mirror you need. Click here for super tow mirrors

On the Lucerix it is a 4. 5 inch extend for a width of 21 inches on each side (measured from the hinge point) or 23 inches from the door. The Lucerix have a big mirror with good view. Haven't seen the Powervision but just installed my Lucerix last week. Beefy.

I believe Koa Man is correct. I should have my new Power Vision mirrors (new design + heated) sometime within the next several days.

Alan the Power Vision mirrors are also large, with "flat" glass on the passenger side as well.

Make sure since both are flat on the passenger side that which ever one you get you get a spot convex. I had a heck of a blind spot although the side vision is excellent. I had to be past a car before I could see it. Completely past. Scary in heavy traffic. Added a 3-3/4 spot on the passenger side. Solved the problem.

Just installed my Lucerix mirrors (Alan sent a few good technical helps along the way). I really like them and they are lareger than Powervisions, so I can see the entire side of my fifth wheel. Even from the nonextended position they are further extended than the stock and give similar view as the old "California Mirrors" I had on my '83 Ford F250. I like these, especially with the power and heat. There is no splicing, so no guess work; therefore, even I could install. When I looked into powervision, I was looking at a $300 installation charge from the dealer due to all the splicing. Now I can remove and reinstall the stock when it comes time to sell the truck in twenty or so years! Good luck!

Alan:
Can the Lucerix Mirrors be had anywhere cheaper than $345. 00 PLUS $29. 95 S/H from the manufacturer? If so, please advise as they seem like the way to go.
I tried your e-mail address but was unsuccessful. TIA.

EZ94, I couldn't find them anywhere else. Doesn't look like they are doing the dealer/rep thing. My email is

Hope this helps.

Last tip. When I got my bill, it was about 18 dollars higher than quoted. It was a Master Card exchange rate issue. I think Lucerix is going to cut me the difference but it irritated me. So if you buy, don't use a Master Card if you can help it because the price will fluctuate daily with the exchange rate.

Just made my first trip with the mirrors. They are nice. Great view.

Mangles, I messed around with the passenger side last night to see what effect moving the detent would be to put the mirror further away from the door. What I found is that if the mirror arm is set the same as the driver's side, then the mirror can't adjust far enough in with the power knob. Solution was to slide the adjusting arm on the passenger side out 2 inches. Now I see the whole mirror and have full adjustment. That's where I'll leave it. I can see the whole rear tire if I need to. I agree, their customer service has been good in answering questions, etc.

If you plan to install PowerVisions and think you might want to reinstall the stock mirrors when you sell the truck, be sure NOT to cut the stock connector wires real close to the plug on the tilt switch. Leave enough wire to install a butt connector. Other than that, reinstalling the stock mirrors should be no problem. I figure the easy thing is to just sell the truck with the power mirrors, should be a good selling point.

Koa Man, that is not the case with the new generation Power Vision mirrors. The wiring connections are made DIRECT plug-in to the OE connectors (ON TRUCKS WITH THE FACTORY HEATED MIRRORS ONLY). If you do not have the OE heated mirrors, I believe you still require the first generation mirrors.

I finally received my new generation Power Vision mirrors yesterday. Whoa! Are these things *****in'! #ad

This is NO LONGER true of the new generation Power Vision mirrors. There is no cutting, drilling or wire splicing as was the case with the first generation PV mirrors. In addition, they are heated, provide break-away in both directions and seem to be extremely well enguneered and constructed. The new generation PV mirrors are a little smaller than their predecessor... they extend 5. 5" as opposed to 6", and the mirror glass is 6. 5" tall by 10. 5" wide as opposed to the first gen. mirrors at 7" tall by 11" wide.

I really like the styling of the mirror head profile of the newer generation mirrors. In addition, the mirror head is no longer constructed of smooth (and painted) plastic but instead, a pebble grained plastic is utilized which virtually matches the OE Dodge Mickey Mouse ear mirrors. Sweet!

I'll probably install mine this weekend. #ad

NO MORE cutting or splicing with the new generation Power Vision mirrors (IF YOU HAVE THE FACTORY HEATED MIRRORS ON YOUR RAM).

I have NEVER heard of an installation price of $300. for the first gen. Power Vision mirrors! I would run, not walk away from that dealer. In fact, I know two of my local Dodge dealers (both are Power Vision dealers) charge less than $150 for the complete installation, ditto for Camping World.

Guys, the Magna X-Mt. or Lucerix, as you are calling them, are being modified. The detent is being changed so they will be farther out and I think the manueverability of the glass will be better also. Ask Lucerix about this. I have towed about 4K miles with mine now, and they are great. I also like the PV mirrors, but in my situation if the elect. extension ever failed I would be in deep do do, so went with the pull out. The Magna's are quite a bit larger also,
Larry

I purchased both the Powervisions and the Lucerix mirrors. Took a look at both side-by-side, read the instructions, etc. Ended up installing the Lucerix because they provided a better view and installed easier. There are a number of discussions in the TDR regarding both plus the Dodge towing mirrors, which I also looked at, but they are not heated nor adjustable by the wife.

My biggest complaint, the Lucerix mirrors have some minor surprises, such as:
- The passenger mirror does not have a mid-point, but rather rides closer to the door than the driver’s mirror. Spoke with Lucerix about this plus more. They provided great post purchase support, including sending a replacement passenger mirror to compare to my installed mirror. This is also when I learned the Lucerix mirrors have a lifetime warranty.
- The passenger studs were to long. Had to cut ‘em off.
- Cannot adjust the mirrors down to look at my tires at the curb – close, but not a winner. Solved this when I installed a small round stick-on mirror.

With all this said, I would only buy the Lucerix. The powervision's would have required truck modifications that would have made it difficult to reinstall the stock mirrors if there is a future need.

yogibear,
The PowerVisions can be extended manually if necessary. You can pull it out or push it in slowly. The service manager at PV told me it was OK to do it if done SLOWLY, although the instructions say damage will result. He said damage to the electric motors would only occur if pulled or pushed in rapidly.

John,
Thanks for the update on the new generation PV connections. Don't know why they didn't do it that way for both the heated and non heated versions from the get-go.

Who has the best price on the powervision mirrors???

LI Camper, I don't know, I purchased mine through Jason Burton of NW Custom (he is a Power Vision dealer). I paid $30. off retail for them. My rationale behind this was simple, I wanted to support a fellow TDR member who has become a good friend in the last two years. Besides, I have ALWAYS received EXCELLENT customer service from Jason. If interested, Jason can be reached at: (509) 993-0811 or (509) 291-3800.

The retail price for the new generation Power Vision mirrors is $469 (heated version). The mirrors can also be purchased directly from Power Vision. Camping World is also a dealer for Power Vision. With one of their frequently advertised discount coupons and/or President's Club membership, the price could be reduced quite favorably. Still, even though I had a Camping World discount coupon AND I am a President's Club member, I elected to deal with a friend... #ad

ShortShift you got no idea!
I paid $390 for my PV's from my Dealer in Bend. Rather than pay $200 to install I took them home. Found out that PV had a new wiring harness that would ease the installation. Paid $75 for a new harness, mounting plates and freight. (PV is going to give me some credit when I return the old harness - don't know how much yet. Paid a local body shop $20 to remove the inside door panels because I didn't want to buy a special tool. Did do all the hardware installation and the new mounting plates give you the feeling of real sturdiness AND you don't have to drill holes thru the door and skin. Did cut out the in/out switch according to the new instructions. Went back to the Dealer to run the harness cause I couldn't get the electrical connection inside the driver's kick panel loose - paid for a minimum of one hour labor = $72. Then the installer informed me that the in/out hole cut wouldn't work - there's not enough room behind the door panel for the switch. New door panel at a discount is $220. So I'm driving around with the in/out switch hanging out inside trying to figure the next step. Had I bought the door panel my mirrors would have cost: $777. BUT they sure are nice! And I have to admit that PV has been sympathetic. They're going to drill a hole in the door for me so the switch has enough room - at the PNW TDR in June at Timberline! And the mirrors can extend out far enough to smack those bike riders who insist on riding side by side!
THERE IS A MORAL TO THIS STORY, but I won't give my version of it.
