Dang Tlippy,

Yep, I bet they are nice mirrors. Sorry to hear about your nightmare.

I'm thinkin' these 'ol 35 dollar cheapo extensions are looking better all the time.

Tom, I don't understand why you needed the new wiring harness and mounting plates???? Do you have the first or second generation (i. e. , heated, new mirror style) Power Vision mirrors? I have the second generation PV mirrors and the kit came complete with the plug-in style wiring harness and the steel mounting (no-drill, backup) plates. What am I missing here?

John - I bought the first generation mirrors and when I called PV for advice they told me that a new harness has just started shipping and also new mounting plates which eliminated the 'drill thru the door thing'. The new stuff would fit the mirrors I just purchased. Rather than return the mirrors I opted to just buy the new items. Price will come out about the same. I would like to know where you cut the hole for the in/out switch. Not much room behind the panel. The guys from PV will cut out the metal behind where I put my switch, so the terminals will pass thu. I tried bending them 90 degrees and there still isn't room.

Thanks Tom, that really cleared up your situation for me (and some of the price disparity). A call to Power Vision on Friday revealed that they recommend locating the switch just ahead of and slightly above the arm rest plane... in the highest area of the panel in that region where the panel is still far away from the steel door structure (i. e. , before the contour "break" in the plastic door panel). I know this is probably a lame description however, this is about the best I can do. Obviously, this would only apply to '98+ Rams.

Well I finally got around to installing my new generation (heated) Power Vision mirrors. :D The only real problem I had was the in/out switch placement. I spent so much time analyzing every possible location on the driver side door (and taking into account every possible scenario... clearance behind the switch, leg contact while driving etc. ), I can't even believe it! Anyway, the job turned out real well. In addition, I wallpapered 12 sq. ft. of Dynamat Xtreme onto the driver/passenger doors. Now the cab is even quieter.

I noticed one thing immediately, the mirrors are absolutely rock steady at any speed... that's a far cry from the OE mickey mouse ear mirrors. Another feature I like about the PV mirrors is that they are a little lower than the mickey mouse ear mirrors... it enables better vision of small vehicles just flanking you. One drawback though, I'm going to have to purchase at least one spot (convex) mirror for the passenger side mirror as the glass is the same as the driver side. I like that feature however, a convex spot would make driving safer.

I just installed the Magna-X mirrors and so far I like them. I would have to agree that you do have a blind spot on the passenger side, so I'll add a spot mirror to correct this. The bolts on the passenger side fit fine with no cutting needed. I did have to buy a new bolt for the drivers side because the one they included was too short. A M6X50 works great. The pics of these mirrors really don't show you just how big these are. These are big. I'm not for sure that I would like them on a 2500 because of the size but that's just me. Anyway I feel this is a good product and for me was worth the money.
