Towing mirrors

I have a 99 that has the regular mirrors (power and heated) Does anybody know what it costs to get the Towing mirrors and how hard it is to install them? (I know it is probably not worth it but just thought I would ask)

Dealer list on the kit is $245. 00, easy to install. Shop around you can do better than list.

Geno's has the CIPA's that are power and heated but more than the Dodge ones that aren't power or heated (unless they came out with a new set).

Tow Mirrors

I thought in order to install the new 2003 power tow mirrors that you need the 2001 tow mirror base (unpowered) plus the new 2003 power tow kit. Therefore, you are buying two complete kits say more than $500. So are you saying that as long as I have a 2001 with power mirrors I only need the adapter kit to have a Dodge power tow mirrors?

Thanks Guys, so the $245 ones are not heated or power but will fit on my truck without any modifications, correct?



And I can get power and heated ones but it is more expensive plus they take more to install, right? Just trying to get all this straight.



Oh, and do they come with instructions on how to install them(I know guys aren't supposed to read the instructions but I have a hard enough time with them let alone without them) If they don't I am sure someone on here can tell me how.

I was at the dealer this evening to get the truck inspected and asked about the tow mirrors. I can get them for 212 and they are not powered or heated. He is going to find out if I can use the 03 mirrors on my 01 and see what it would cost if they will fit. I feel like I would be down grading since I have power mirrors now and bough some not powered.

You should be able to get them powered also. Do you have flip out tow mirrors on your 2001 now? If not I think you also need the base plates from a 2001 for the tow mirrors and the new 2003 mirrors. If not please respond as to what the dealer tells you...

Buy the Cipa slide overs & have the best of both worlds! They run about $45 +-... . You still have heated truck mirrors & $200 in your wallet.

The 2003 trucks have power heated flip up tow mirrors, the earlier ones were not heated. You can hybridize the two and have power heated flip ups on our 2nd gens. I am going to do this shortly. What you need is the base off of a set of non power heated flip ups for the 2nd gens and the power heated heads off of the 3rd gen. Somebody has a link on their homepage about doing the conversion. I think it was klenger. So if you currently have the non flip up power mirrors that came on a 2nd gen then yes you need to buy both sets of flip ups and use the various parts from each. Probably cheaper to go aftermarket, but it is pretty cool

They are easy to install, just pull off the door panel, pull 3 nuts off old mirror base, remove old mirror, and put it all back together. 15 - 20 min per door max. If you are real good, you can do it without removing the door panel, just take out the screw in the corner and pull it back. Dealer charges an hour per door.

I have a set of cipa now and one of them flew off last weekend . I have the 01 with regular mirrors now. I will try to post what I find out at the Dodge House.

Ok, so if I just want to put the non power or heated mirrors on my 99, do I just go in and get a kit for a 2000 or 2001 and it will fit just by taking off the 3 nuts and pulling the old mirrors off and putting the new ones on. Sounds too good to be true.

your exactly right all you'll have to do is pull the door panel back and there are three 10mm nuts holding the mirror on. All you need to do is pull out a little foam they put in there to get to them. I would like to hear more about making a set of power flip up tow mirrors though? I have a set of each mirrors but would really like the nest of both worlds. Does anyone have the link to how to make them? Thanks Seth

I hope the instructions were helpful to the guys that are doing the swap. I had no idea that anyone would tackle this project, due to cost, and the amount of work involved, in hindsight, I wish I would have taken some pictures while everything was apart, and also made a wiring diagram. When I wrote the instructions, they were from memory, a few months after the fact.



If some of you doing the swap would takes some pictures, and make up a wiring diagram, I'm sure Klenger would update my instructions on his webpage.

Flipping out over flip outs

I put the flip out towing mirrors kit on about a two months ago. I just recently got to try them out with slide in camper and they are great! The safety afforded by the view is welcomed. No vibration at all and I am very happy



I had the slip on CIPAs for my 96 and there is no comparison. If anyone wants to buy them make me an offer.



the install is very basic just be careful not to bust up the tabs on your door panel.

My wife just told me she doesn't like the power towing mirrors I out on her 03 2500. She like the smaller one's we just changed out. So, I'll end up with the two sets of flip mirror needed for the project. I'm the only one who drives my 3500, so the power part ain't that important, but the heated part is.
