I just returned from a 3 week trip from Connecticut to the Smokies in Tennessee and I thought I would report on how the truck worked out. I towed a 15k trailer for 1964 miles (total) and averaged 10. 1 mpg going down and 11. 1 mpg coming back for a 10. 5 mpg average. I drove 914 miles solo and averaged 16. 7 mpg on mostly curvy mountain roads. I am very happy with this. I noticed that the warmer the weather got, the better the mileage and if I kept the speed (towing) under 65 the mileage improved as well.

The truck handled very well, and was a pleasure to drive. The six speed is far superior to the 5 speed in my previous 98. 5 truck and I love the 4:10s for towing. The Jacobs brake performed flawlessly as did the Timbrens. The Pull Right hitch and Prodigy brake were as advertised. My wife and I both agreed that this is the most comfortable ride that we have ever had on a trip and I sure enjoyed the quiet. I love my truck.

While in Tennessee, we camped for about 5 days with Casey Balvert and his wife, Karen and Fireman and his wife, Lisa. We had never met before, but we formed a lasting friendship. We talked trucks, went on side trips and enjoyed each others company, great guys and gals. We called our meeting the FAIIDDC (First Annual Interstate International Dodge Dually Convention). Those three big CTD's sure got a lot of attention.

I almost forgot to mention that the Garmin Street Pilot 3 was awesome on the trip.

How about your Golden?

Did he get to go, too?

Sounds like a fun trip. Glad everything worked well!

I'm thinking about selling my 8-1/2 Lance & getting a 9-1/2 Arctic Fox. I'm a little concerned about the extra weight. Went ahead & got a set of Timbrens on the back; hope they work as well on the slide-in as they work on your 5-er!

Jim,

Yes, Dean's Golden, Woody, went too. Along with his two Himalayan cats Jake and Gus, Casey's two Border Collies, Polly and Babe and our dogs Turbo the Rat Terrier, Arnold the Havaneese, and Two Bits the blind, toothless mutt. We all had a LARGE time!

The dogs and I just returned from Gulf Shores, where we met Casey, Karen, Poly, and Babe again. We took the dogs to the beach, went to the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Battleship Alabama (BB60), and saw the Blue Angels perform. WOW, there are some great guys in the TDR, and we have had a great time over the last month!

We just got an new Artic Fox dealer in Birmingham and I went down and looked at some of the fifth wheels that they had, and by are they nice. I was really impressed with the quality of the trailers, and the prices seemed very reasonable too. I'm sure that you would be happy with one.

Fireman

Yep, he went and the two cats, too. If he stays home, so do I. Might leave the cats home next time to cut down on the weight:rolleyes: . I think you will like the Timbrens. I like them as well as the airbags I had on the other truck and there is less fussing around with them, not much of a job to install, either. My truck rode like a baby carriage even thru PA. Good luck with the Fox, I have heard good things about them.
