Got into the first snowpacked road Friday. These trucks have so much power that cruise seems risky on less than dry roads.

Anyone care to comment if adding MORE POWER makes running on slick roads extra dangerous? Thanks, Doc

The safe thing would be to turn the box on it's lowest setting, if at all, in such unsafe conditions. IMHO

Towing with chip

I does make a huge difference. Tires are biggest influence. I pulled through 600 miles of snow Monday with Michelins, Finally left the fiver in Flagstaff and ran home (50 miles) and changed out to my studded BFG's. .

With any kind of power enhancement, you will see boost and torque come on early, even in the lowest power setting, and tires will spin like crazy. From Ash Fork to Flagstaff I ran in 4WD just to keep tire spin to a minimum. Biggest challenge is getting underway from a stop. You gotta have a real light foot.

Studded tires make a world of difference.

With just my mild bombs (see signature), just towing in the rain can be an adventure! Not only is keeping traction when pulling away from a stop a challenge, but I've broken the rear tires loose coming out of a corner at 45 MPH in 5th gear!

Unplugging the data link cable on the EZ (2nd gen 24V) helps a lot - it lessens the hard "hit" when getting on the throttle.

I did a little rescue mission, had to get the sons mother in law out of a blizzard last week-end. The 12 valve is very controllable in the snow even with over 400hp. Of course my truck weighs in at 8k so that helps along with the siped tires.

this situation is what keeps me from getting injectors just yet... .

With the box of course just turn it down... But how do you tame injectors when it snows?

(maybe don's EDM's that are only 30hp when alone)

For towing it's not such a big deal. Empty... now that's another story. I think using the cruise is FAR MORE unsafe than using the chip. I ran an EZ on my '01 through a MN winter with no probs. Just can't get on it too much in the wrong situation, no different than a stock truck. Exhaust brakes and cruise control... both deadly on snow/ice.

JimKing, it must be nice to be able to run studded tires. MNDOT ain't too fond of them.

You know I have studded tires only by accident. This is AZ!! But I bought them at a yard sale for 160 bucks, from a guy who moved here from Minnesota !! We used them once to visit family in CO, then they just occupied space in the garage.
