Long story...
we went up yesterday for the day only, to see my cousin 97f3507. 5Lgas/05'29'salemtoyhauler and friends up camping. One other person brought up an 05'30' raptor with a 2nd gen V10, as well.
Last year I had an older Ford 7. 3idi towing my then new 21'wtbtahoetransport. A couple of months back, it was gaskets or another truck. Well after looking, I decided on the one listed below.
Ok, here's what happened... thursday night.
The 2nd gen V10 towing cracked a head, or lost a head gasket
(yeah, I also have heard of this happening before, big problem on the V10) on the way in. He was seven miles from camp when it went south. My cousin went back for his friends trailer and hauled it up to camp, not to be denied a camping week end for all.
When I showed saturday, my cousin told me what happened.
And politely asked me if I could come back up and haul this 05'Raptor home for his friend. I know this person and he is a good guy. . so...
I'm coming back up Monday. I have not had time to tow with my "new"to me" truck. I do have a voyager brake controller, but the light on top is "not" lighting up when I apply my truck brakes. This isn't normal with any controllers I've had before, even if the trailer is not hooked up. .
Any troubleshooting tips on that would be helpful. . ?
Also I have dynoe'd my truck at 182hp/390ftlbs at the rear wheels.
I wanted a baseline as I add things to get 600ftlbs of torque. . for towing only.
I have the 97auto w/3. 54's so I'm thinking no overdrive, since 55 is tops on these roads. Also I will find a speed on the hills that keeps the transmission from changing gears. Just like my old Ford did, but i had 4. 10's, I sure could use those gears tomorrow. Let alone a set of gauges, soon to be installed. .
Any other tips would be helpful, thanks...
Ps, both of them are getting diesel's next, according to them. .
We all think it's a wise move...
Now to convince my cousin of a Dodge is next. :-laf
