Easy to overload SRW

2004.5 CTD QC shortbed towing

It seems anytime I reply to a thread about breaking something in the drivetrain I always have the sand dunes to blame. I thought I might take the opportunity to see if other members and their familys enjoy Oregon Dunes, Sand Mountain, St. Anthony Dunes, or Glamis. If it weren't for taking the family riding I really wouldn't need this nice of a truck. ;)

I frequent St Anthony and Jericho here in Utah quite a bit. Haven't made it down to Glamis or Sand mountain yet. Some of my buddies with really hyped quads do though.

Duner here.

The only reason I bought the truck was for the dunes... Had to have the toys, then got bigger toys, forced a bigger trailer, then a RV, RV got old decided on a 5'er toy hauler but do to the big toys it had to be a big 5er...

Anyway here I sit with a CTD and a toyhauler and couldn't be happier.

Btw - we go to Buttercup and Gordons Well (Imperial Sand Dunes/Glamis)

We love to ride the Oregon dunes.

We usually stay at Spinreel camp ground when we can get a spot or the Casino motel. We have a few weekends already reserved this summer.

Because we loved to ride up there, we spent the extra money on the DTT transmission to make the truck more dependable when we tow.

I ride a 86 TRX 250R, wife Banshee, sons 400ex's and a 22' Cargomate trailer to pack everything there. Custom trailer plate says "2ZDUNEZ".

Maybe we can get together and have a TDR sand dune weekend.

Less than 100 miles to the north end of the Oregon Dunes from here. I used to get there a lot more than I do now, got the poor old 250R totally worn out :( I keep my truck away from the sand though, I've seen what it does to machines that were made for it.

Glamis and Dumont

I have been going to Glamis since 68. I run two turbo corvair cars and a couple of quads.

I've been too the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in Utah, nice but small.

I'm about 30 miles behind Sradke (120 to the oregon Dunes). Haven't been there with the quads yet as they are pretty new. I think it would be a blast to do a weekend thing. Trucks, Bikes, Sand and good company -Oh it couldn't get much better!!!

We have July 9-16 at the KOA in Hauser. Bunch of Ford guys going :-{} I'm the only Dodge , but I have the fastest quad in the group, so they will accept me. Besides, I'm the one who usually goes down unknown trails first. My motto is " First one in... ..... first one out" :p

We love Gordons Well and Buttercup. We were there the week before New Years. Hey do you ride into Mexico? If you do, have you seen the drag strip mexicans have set up at the end of the dunes? What do they race there? Tillers or haybalers?

We will be at Spinreel July 8-10 space 35. If you head north across the that 1 mile whoop road, stop by spinreel and say hi. Great motto!!! I hope I can live by that, but I am in need of some new Sand Skates II's. My R's motor will be gone through next month and freshened up.

I have a YFZ450 with red plastic and HID lights, cant miss me at night. Quads are cool but three wheelers still rule. My backup (86 ATC 250R). They have an ice cream social at the KOA every night, maybe we can sneak you in... ... all you can eat!!!!

4xquadrod, are the Coral Pink Dunes fun to ride for a week? What time of year is best? Does it offer something different then Glamis, for example Oregon Dunes have trees and trails in the sand. Dont get me wrong, Glamis is awesome, but a much smaller version of it at Coral Pink would bore me after a couple days.

JJ Jackson,

The KOA ice cream social they have are pretty cool, but their hot showers are the best. Let me know what space your in.

So you crossed over to the dark side and bought a Yamaha, I'm sorry. Two of my buddies also retired their R's and went blue. At least yours is red.

Those 450's are awesome quads. But I love my 2-stroke.

If you ever get up this way... make a trip to the Oregon Dunes:

I've spent many Summer nights staying at Honeyman State Park (right next to the dunes, just south of Florence, Oregon) and playing in the dunes or at the beach.

This is an excellent recreational area, and something for everyone in the family to do... :D

We try and get down 1-2 times a month during the season... The next trip that I know of is Presidents day weekend. But we are trying to go before hand.

I've only ridden into Mexico a couple of times, I have a Long Travel high HP Pilot and from time to time iv'e been known to breakdown so it always makes me nervous going accross that line. The guys with rifles are always a deterent. I would love to know what the dragstrp your talking about is though. I wouldn't mind making the trek to see that.

I'm about 80 miles north of Horsfall, part of Oregon Dunes. We go down as often as we can (which is not enough) Pull out on the sand with the toy hauler. That way we have our privacy, the dogs get to run and we dont have to park 3 feet from the next trailer. Have never had a problem with any thing mechanical (due to sand). Personaly I think that sand is easier on equipment than mud or dust. This comes from sand camping since the mid 80's.

We have gone to Buttercup a few times, but we made it to Glamis for the first time the weekend before Thanksgiving. Man, I can't wait to go back. A lot of people out there. I also liked "vendors row", but I guess that only happens on big weekends.

We hit as much sand as we can. Sand Mtn. , Pismo, and Winchester bay. Got a pismo trip planned for Pres. weekend if andbody wants to meet up. Leaving from nor cal thurs after work.

Its at the end of the dunes. You have to cross about 4 or 5 valleys. Just keep riding till you see green farm land, then parallel the farm land till you see a bunch of trash and beer bottles in the dunes where the mexicans use the dunes as bleachers for their drag stip. No Federales with rifles, too lazy to run in the sand. I would love to go for Prez weekend, but I'm super busy with work and can only take 4 days off. I need a week to go to GW/ Buttercup. Thinking I'll go to Oregon dunes at Hauser.
