Are there any options for towing twins that will work with the factory exhaust brake? If not, is there a good single turbo upgrade that will work with the exhaust brake. TIA

you do not show enough power upgrades to warrant a turbo upgrade. if you go mild a htt 62-65-13 will work with the jake. i know you think the jake is cool, it is old technology and the vacuum pumps fail and are expensive and if it seizes up it breaks the serpentine belt. i just loved a 4 day vacation in pecos texas in july. if you go twins get the bd brake and junk the jake. that is what we do when our vacuum pumps fail.

ATS sells at least 2 twin turbo kits that can utilize the OE exhaust brake.

I am in the same boat as you, I want twins but I also want to keep my elbow EB.

For about the 400 rwhp towing goal I have I think I am going to just stick with a single, either a Garrett 3788 or a S330 in a 62/68/12 or 14 size. But twins would be super.

I would be planning to do some more power upgrades. I have already changed the vacuum pump twice. 140,000 miles. Its easy to do and fairly inexpensive from Cummins. (150$) I carry a none Vacuum ump belt in the truck. Are there any ballbearing watercooled twin setups available? I understand at that point I may have to pass on the factory Jake.

I,ve towed with a Htt 62/14 for 260k smarty on 3 keeps the temps in check about 1450egt pushing hard up the hill to Eisenhower tunnel outside of Denver most of the time it maxs about 1250 I would do it all over again. One other thought with out the smarty it is slow to spool.

Thats a lot of miles, but 1450 with added timing is way to hot for me. I don't like topping 1350* with Smarty timing. 1450 was fine stock, but the retarded timing meant lower cylinder temps. I realize Eisenhower is a pull at some serious elevation, but thats hot! 1250* is much better.

How does the 14 housing spool? Can you lug it similar to stock?

I had the same question when I installed my twin turbos. I had the PRXB elbow brake. After a WHOLE lot of phone calls to twins kit people and checking things out, I decided to add 5" exhaust at the same time I was putting the twins in and got the 5" in-line brake. Ended the congestion problem at the downpipe and the in-line works just like the elbow. All I had to do was run the air line back, no other changes. While the ATS turbos MAY fit, and that IS a tight fit from what I have heard, I didn't want the ATS setup. so I just bit the bullet and got the in-line.

As has already been said, the factory brake leaves much to be desired in vac pump issues, that's why I did not have it put in when I got my truck, having to carry a special belt to deal with failures was NOT on my toolbox/tool list. The Pac system has never failed me, good to go all the time.

I would like something that is very livable day to day and be able to tow GCVWR near 23000# comfortably. (40' goose neck car trailer) We go cross country almost twice a year. Any thoughts on what maybe the best setup? Right now I have an older TST (bought it in 2006), a 5" exhaust and an intake. A Goerend is on my to do list. The truck has 137,000 miles on it. I am open to suggestions on what will give the best bang for the buck. We do all our own work so labor is free. (KINDA?!?!) I guess I would entertain a strong fast spooling single (ball bearing)

Sorry I missed your post the 1450 was putting it to the wood to see how hot she would get (15 sec) my normal is to run up to 1250 and let her ride my turbo is still tight rite at 275k I will go with the 62/14 again. Shes a little slow to spool without the Smarty but on level 3 it steps rite up actually about like stock just FYI my smarty has saved my a__ more than once by reading codes or being able to read my codes last week it was a crank sensor changed it out was back on the road in 25 min on a friday nite at 530 pm try that with out a code reader.

Best thing you could do (IMO) is do like me. Sell your Jacobs. Some other person will gladly jump on it. Install the twins of your choice. Get a 5" inline PacBrake. :)
