Hi Guys,

Problem have a 2006 2500 deisel 2x4 quad cab ,have just bought a 34 ft van and need to upgrade to 15800 lb towing capacity(same as the 3500). Has anyone ever upgraded there vehicle to tow more than factory specs ,i dont want to go to duals . I have looked at all of the parts between a 3500 and a 2500 and the only difference seems to be the rear spring pack has a helper spring(overload) on the top of the pack . Your help would be appreciated

regards conn

I think the only functional difference for you would be going to 4:10 rear gearing and get airbags if it slouches in back.

Of course there's no way to legally change your towing capacity.

Heck, I'd just try towing with it the way it is now. You may be surprised how well it does.

towing/hauling

You can do a a couple things. First, you can buy the factory overloads and weld a perch on the frame. It's not as simple as the second gen where you could buy the perch and bolt it on. Second, you can go to a spring shop and have a stiffer main or secondary leaf made without extra lift and slap it in. Third, you can buy Supersprings and spend all of 5 minutes putting them on. I added the supersprings because I already have a 1 ton and they helped out alot. I also added a rear stabilizer and it help's out in the body roll especially if you have alot of weight in the back if you are juming around in plowed fields or whatever. Towing on the road you may never need it though. I think the truck hauls uneven and top heavy loads better than my 97 did now. It wasn't even close at first. I don't like air bags because I kept tearing them up in the mesquite trees and cotton stalks. Again, if it is mainly a towing truck the air bags may be fine.
