Well, we just got back from vacation. We pulled our 32' tt about 1800 miles with the new Mega. Terrain varied from pretty flat (Highway 5 from Bellingham to Eugene), hills (from Eugene to 97 in Oregon) and flat out, long steep grades (coming out of the Columbia River gorge from Biggs going north). Overall, compared to my 97--
Pluses
POWER! So much more useable power. And effortless.
transmission-I think the 48RE with the T/H and O/D lockout works fine. Is it
a DTT or Suncoast? No, but it is worlds ahead of the stock 47RE. It
took awhile to get used to how to make it do what I wanted when I
wanted it to, but then worked very will. Except for the one bit listed
under "MINUSES".
Quiet
Room
Jake brake-I think this thing should be standard it works so good
Steering-It's nice to go where you aim! Of course, this is from a truck
with just under 3000 miles compared to one with 125,000. It better go
where I aim it! :-laf
Minuses
A/C isn't up to snuff. If you get it cool early on, it's fine, but if you stop
for lunch and it gets hot in the truck, it takes a while to cool down.
Quiet-I do kind of miss the 4" with the hollow muffler. :-laf
Backing up into my yard-Had to hook up the old truck because the transmission
crapped out on the new one! :{ Will have to wait til Monday to see what
happened.
I would rate the ride as very good for a 3500. It's not as smooth as the 97 2500 with KORE, but I knew that going in. It is not bad, though. Overall, this truck is a real pleasure to tow with. The extra room was appreciated by all. The fold out tow mirrors work great, the seats are pretty comfy, though I haven't " broken in" mine yet. The radio is OK, but not what I had hoped for. There is a whole other thread on that, and the a/c.
There were a few times when I was cut off by cars coming onto the freeway, and I know at least one guy saw me. I was accelerating in the right lane after a slowdown and he came up the ramp, looked at me, gunned his car a little and started to pull in. I don't think he realized how quickly I was accelerating. It's a beautiful thing! Oh, yeah, the horn works well too.
