Towing with a Dodge Magnum?

Has anyone towed anything with a Dodge Magnum RT? or a Charger or 300C (with a Hemi)? I'm curious how it handled and mileage. I have a 3000 lb boat, and the car is rated up to 3800 lbs towing capacity. And please, I would like this to stay specifically on topic. I don't need the advice and opinions of others like how they think a truck is better, etc. I'm looking for direct, specific experience from anyone that has actually done this.



I'd like to know if these cars can actually tow what they claim to be rated to do.

Do you have a hitch on the car already? What is it rated for? I would use weight distributing bars. Make sure the trailer has functioning brakes (electric) and you should be fine.

A 3k trailer should only have a tongue weight of appx 300lbs, I doubt you would really need the weight dist bars. I have definately put more than 300lbs in the rear of less capable cars and it drove just fine. Most trailers rated 3,500lbs GVW and less will not have trailer brakes (they MUST have them if OVER 3,500 in CO), but again, doubt you would find that you need them with that light of load.



No hands on experience with either car, but I doubt you would have any issues at all.

The hitch is tated at 380/3800 with wd hitch. 200/2000 without. I plan on getting a wd hitch, of course. Trailer has brakes (hydraulic surge).



Please, does anyone have actual experience with this car? I am a former truck driver. I know about weight and balance, about towing, about all that stuff. I've towed A LOT with my truck. I'm not trying to be a know-it-all. I learn stuff every day. I was just hoping with this thread to get ACTUAL EXPERIENCE posts.



Does anyone on here actually have one of these cars, and has towed with it? Mine supposedly has the load leveling system. I'm wondering how YOURs worked. I'm not looking for "yours should work" or "don't trust it" or any of the random opinions. I need to discuss actual accounts, please.

Some other posters actually provided intelligent responses with good information, as I am also considering a Magnum or 300C for the wife's car. So for me a useful thread.

4 years ago I was passed by one pulling a 2800 lb popup camper like a freight train. 80mph+ looked just fine. The camper had the storage on the nose so it had more then the usual tongue weight. I know it is not much help but people must be pulling things with them.

I have, and got one person that has done it (well two, but one was a moron towing WAY more than it's rated for). And they were just towing a little fold-up motorcycle trailer. Heck, I could tow it with MY motorcycle.



So, I was just hoping, as there are more people here on this site, that someone actually has one of these cars and could give some good info. I've looked on boating forums and others, as well. Just trying to find someone that's actually done this. What I'm really looking for is how well they tow (from someone with ACTUAL experience) and what sort of mileage they get.

My brother had a hitch for his AWD charger RT but I talked him out of it because there is no way to change or check the transmission fluid. City driving with trailer would IMO raise temps enough to decrease fluid intervals. transmission comes out to service.
