I have a question about towing with an auto. I have a 6500 lb travel trailer, and have wondered is it ok to use the overdrive in non hilly conditions? I have an 02 with highway gears, I find that travelling in third gear it is hard to get any speed or economy. I am new to towing and don't want to cause harm to the transmission.

About half of my 100k + miles have been towing between 7k -11k lbs. and I always tow in OD when not in the mountains. Just listen for when the engine starts to bog down and punch the OD button. This will keep your exhaust gas temps down and be easier on the transmission. I also have the transmission serviced every 25-30k miles just as insurance and have'nt had any problems with it.
