Towing with gas motor home

I am new to motor homes and will be borowing my in-laws till I buy my own. I am wondering if you think a 31 foot with 454 will tow a car trailer and 02 QC LB 4x4 to the races next month in canada

I'm sure the motor home will pull the load, but you might get better fuel economy if your truck pulled the motor home.

Thank you I figured it would. I am guessing horrible milage but if money for fuel was an issue I dont think racing would be a hobby.



I am guessing like 8 if I am lucky good thing it is only 2 hours from here for me

Class 'A' Tow Vehicle

The weight of your truck plus the trailer will probably put the GCC way over the weight limit of the motor home. Most of the gas powered motorhomes can just make the weight limit with 4 passengers, food and a compact car in tow. Then there is stopping!!

Most of the Class A gas jobs do have a very low tow rating. I looked at a few new ones a couple years back and about the highest I found was 5000 pounds, not enough for car and trailer. But heck go to the track and there are a ton of them there and they are all pulling 24-32 foot enclosed trailers with tons of stuff in them. My buddy has a 32 foot and pulls a 28 foot trailer with a pro gas car and its loaded with tools. Its got the vortec big block and he runs about 6 mpg. Been all over the country with it. I say hook it, try it, and you will know if can pull the load.

I have done it. I pulled a 20 ft trailer with a modified Jeep into the Colorado Rockies MANY times and had no problems, just stay in the right hand lane, in low gear and let er eat its way to the top of the pass!

Having said that tho, its probably not that good of an idea, but I had to get it there, and the Jeep isn't that driveable for 900 miles especially. . I do make sure my brakes and ESPECIALLY the trailer brakes are in good shape and working like they should. I am careful going downhill, and in all the years, no problems. On straight and level highways I cruise at about 65, and get there when I get there. Oh, and my motorhome is a well preserved 1986 Coachman 30 footer. With the gas prices and seeing as how a guy from Portland Oregon bought my Jeep, I may not be doing that for a while!

I am not sure about the trans a gears as I am borrowing it. I have a 1500 pound tandom axle trailer with electric brakes all this trip is flat as far as I can remeber from seattle to Mission
