I am trying to get my egt's down a little more. I am looking into the 62 super from high tech. I spoke to Paul @ HT & he said that the Super would spool up slower than my 62/14. I love the HTB2, but I still get a little hot when pulling long hills. I tow about 5-7 tons up grades 5% to 8% that run about 5 miles long before they level out. The main issue is that I enter these grades from a dead stop @ the on ramp. I've heard guys say that the super turbos will spool slower, but how much slower? Anyone towing with a super 62 that can give a little feedback? I was looking into the 62/80, but any advise is good. Thanks in advance. :)

I would try it because thats the the same thing I am gonna do. I think in theory they should definitly tow cooler but I thought the newer htb2 was a 62/87 with a better wastegate which should exhaust a little more heat. Are you talking about the Super 40 turbo? Those small shaft hx40s do spool quick and are excellent for towing but have short legs and dont last long over 400hp in my experience. I am going to convert my htb2 to the new tech series asap.

I may be wrong, but I mean the super 62 with the bigger housing. I was looking @ the 62/80 from II & I called Paul to see if he had one similar. He said that he does, but he had to order the housing. The housing should be in tomorrow... ... I'll ask & make sure of housing size, but has anyone tried any super turbo similar?

Your signature says you have a 14 housing on your current HTB2. The . 80 housing is also commonly referred to as the 14 housing. Is the housing you are inquiring about different than the one you have now?

The new super series do not have the new housing yet. I think it will be the first of the year before they are ready. The new housings will have a better flowing wastegeted section, will flow approxiamatley 30% more. The current series are machined out to accept the larger turbine wheels. Your current charger will spool "sooner" but the super series should spool faster. If you need any clarification on this let me know. It is tough to define spool, since it is such a ambiguous subject.

Cooker you are correct the 14 and 80 are the same, the super series has a larger turbine wheel so the housings are machined different.

The PS62 works better on trucks running higher altitudes and the SPS62 works awesome on all other trucks not too overfueled. If you have any questions feel free to phone.

I have the 150hp injectors... Is that what you would call overfueled for towing? I love the low end torque of these injectors & just wanting to cool it down a little. I know that you shouldn't exceed 1250 degrees for a long period of time & I want to try to keep them @ 1100 or less. The temps get to 1250 - 1300 on the long pulls with a big load. I've read posts on the super 62, but those guys all had 3rd gen trucks. I am trying to find out how they work on 2nd gen trucks towing big loads on long pulls?

Ask LOtero, he has a second gen with a SPS 62... I have a 04 and as far as towing goes only have hauled a 8k trailer and my EGT's where way in check around 900/950 degree's. that was at 70 and there where very little rolling hills...

Thanks for the info... I'll PM. LOtero.
