Trying to do a slight BOMB on the transmission without breaking the bank. What do you have and how does it work?

Transmissions

The weak link is the torque converter, and if you upgrade it you should also do the valve body to get the full benefit. Now if you want to get away from the stock disengagement @WOT you will need a commander. Any so-called add ons will cause accelerated wear and eventual failure, although they will perform as stated.

If your transmission is new, I would suggest doing a converter and valve body, along with an ATS commander. This should hold around 400hp, after that I would check into getting the whole transmission upgraded.

Check my signature.

Three in a row! I have the ATS Stage IV, with the Commander, and it is great.

However, your trans is the 48RE and will probably need the Emjay, which I have heard is better than the Commander. I would start calling around and talk to the Main Performance Trans rebuilders (Or check the TDR Links). I would go with the folks I was the most comfortable with.

Nope, the ATS Commander works just fine with a 48RE. It's a simple lock-up controller, nothing fancy.

I don't believe the Emjay controller is available anymore.

Just am trying to decide an a plug/bolt in app. As I said, don't want to break the bank all at once.

Their is no low cost effective method,If you turn up the line pressure to much the accumulator piston cannot take the added pressure do to the fact it is plastic {54-60 min}max{90-96}psi. The rear servo will have blow by{min 145-175} max{230-280}psi stock.

Truthfully I think they are all a wast of money. They are allow cost band-aid to a high priced problem. I think they make most people feel like they did something to help the trany, a pacifier at best. I do not think there is any good short cuts around the automatic transmission. Keep your money and stick it in a jar labeled "Future Transmission Replacement Fund". Every time you pull a heavy load, tow anything, or race the guy next to you in the Ford to the next stop light, toss a twenty dollar bill in it. If it last long enough, might make a dent in the new trany to come.

I don't think there is any cheap way to do what you want.

However, it doesn't mean you can't do it in Stages.

ATS will sell just a TripleLok TC and/or the Valve Body.

The TripleLok TC just by itself will prolong the life of your trans.

Then, as you need or want to, you can add the TC Commander, up-graded internal components, etc.
