Transporting a vehicle from Oregon

more power

I got a new 03 green dually that will be arriving in a week or so . I'm looking for a good toy hauler for hauling around my 1934 ford green street rod. Its just the wife and I for the living portion of the toy hauler. Does anybody have suggestions on brands, length etc. I'm leaning towards the 5th wheel style as compared to the trailer tongue.

thanks... . :)

We have a Campmaster 30' model made by Roadmaster http://www.roadmasterllc.com

New for 2003, they have a gooseneck model available.

We looked at every brand possible and then chose the Campmaster... ... mainly, because it's built like a cargo trailer (there's no wood framing) and the weight was nice.

We use ours to haul my 3 kids (and sometimes extra kids) dirt bikes to races. We also take my Harley with us on vacations. I've been real happy with it so far (about a year now), but I wish they had the gooseneck model last year!!!!!!

BTW..... we pulled our old trailer (28' cargo trailer with homemade living quarters... . the wife loved that!!!!!) with a 1997 Chevy 1/2 4x4 with a 350... ... . WOW, what a difference with this truck (1998. 5 Cummins Dodge 2500 Quad cab sport with 4. 10s!!!!!)

Take care,

Barry

Do not buy a fleetwood toyhauler I just got out of one a big peice of junk. I replaced it with the Tahoe by Thor toyhauler Have not used it yet but looks like it should be a dandy.

Do these Toy Haulers have the capacity to haul around his street rod?

Seems all anybody hauls around in Toy Haulers is dirtbikes, 4wheelers, and road bikes.

I've never even heard of Jeeps being hauled around in Toy Haulers...

Just askin'!

My street rod weighs approx. 2200 pounds, I currently have an email into campmaster with that question. I've seen the really fancy car haulers with living space at the drag races, thats what I'm hoping to get into. I want to save in regards to pulling and weight issues and of course the wife wants to be comfortable in the living spaces!!!

I think you're headin' in the right direction looking at real car haulers with living space. You AND the little lady will be happier! ;)

The gooseneck type trailer IMO is the better way to go over a bumper pull...

You might want to check out irv2.com

They have a forum specific to toy haulers,I know at least one guy puts a Jeep or his Corvette in his weekend warrior 31ft fifth wheel. Also check out warriormfg.com.

Toyhaulers can haul around vehicles... My Weekend Warrior has a payload capacity of 6000 lbs (keep in mind the 126 gal of water and other stuff when figuring the true carrying capacity)... I've seen several with jeeps loaded in them (with the rear bed removed and tires aired down slightly depending on the tire size).

A fs3000 Weekend Warrior has triple 5,200lb axles with 7,100lb brakes on 2 axles and a very stout Zieman frame. The only thing that hampers these trailers (in my opinion) is the load range d tires that come on it... on my next trailer, I'll be upgrading to 16" (from 15") wheels and load range e tires (I'm tired of blowouts!)

Mingoglia ---I have read of many tire problems with heavy toy haulers, mostly carlisle and certain goodyear. I see some toy haulers have an option of heavier 16'' tire wheel set ups. I am interested in the WW2600, have you researched making the change? Do you have to flip the axles? My only concern would be how much it would lift the rig. Warrior says they have switched to General tires and they are better.

What model warrior do you have?

I have a FS2600. I have a '02 model and I've lost all 5 of the original (4 +spare) Carlisle tires. It's ironic that this happened to me as I'm real anal about making sure my trailer is perfectly level (and therefore all tires are carrying the weight evenly) and I check my tire pressure every time I move my trailer. My friend just bought a new FS3000 and it came with Continental tires load Range D. He only has about 500 miles on his trailer so we'll see what happens. He doesn't have quite the weight on the tires I do because he has 3 axles though.

16" rims/tires will barely fit w/o flipping the axles... just make sure you get a tire that's about the same overall width as the 15" because there's only about 1/2" of room as it is with 15".

The trailer isn't too high with flipped axles. I have several friends that had to do this with their 5th wheel rigs. If you were to do this, there would be no problem at all with running 16".

One warrior guy told me tire failure was from sharp turns that would skid the tire sideways causing the belts to start breaking loose later leading to failure . worse on the triple axle due to more side skidding. They say the general tires hold up better in this case. I'm with you though, load range D are at the max in many cases. Do you know of any 15" load range E tires, I assume they don't make them. 16's is the way to go. Any recomendations on which tires to use? Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately they only make load range d tires in 15". If you want to go to a higher load range you have to go up to 16". I've been putting it off for a few weeks now but I'm planning on upgrading my wheels sometime soon (within a week or so). I actually have my 5th blown Carlisle tire sitting in my garage as I type this. I'm the last in my group to do this since everyone else I know has already upgraded. I can let you know what I end up using... . are you looking for a front sleeper?

Looked at many, think warrior is the way to go. Was concerned about towing 8 1/2 wide but should be OK. The front sleeper 26 ft is what we like best. Can't buy just yet hopefully by summer. Any towing or other problems with yours other than tires?

It tows outstanding. It's the best tag trailer I've ever towed. I'm actually looking to purchase another trailer this summer also. I'm going to get the FS3000 this time because I'm looking into having a 4 seat sand rail built which will be slightly too long for my FS2600. If you would consider a '02 model, mine will be for sale this summer. It's been well taken care of, is probably the only one you'll find with 2 A/C units installed, has a built in Onan generator, has a set of golf cart batteries in the front, electric jack, and will have brand new load range E tires mounted on 16" rims by then.

REndres... dont worry too much about the 8 1/2 foot deal... mine is that and being a fifth wheel... (which i presume is what you are looking at) they hardly even wiggle... if you want to save some$$ look at the Skyline Rampage. . i dig mine... 10k less than a WW and as stout as one... (dont get me wrong ww's are nice but OVERPRICED!!...

my 2 cents!
