TOYO mt 35 12.5 17 TIRES ? Anyone ?

guess I should re-state the question:

I was wondering if anyone who has gone to the Toyo MTs has lost mileage?

Yes – expect to loose 1-3 MPG city I have the tires and I did loose mileage. However highway is where the larger tires shine...

This reason from my past reading why the drop in MPG. The larger tire requires more energy to turn the larger wheel giving the effect of jack rabbit start each time you have to start from stand still in the city. . Driving on the highway once the larger wheels are going it requires less energy to maintain the constant speed.



My experience I drove from Frisco Texas to Grand Canyon and this were my findings. I did have my SPEEDO corrected for larger tires I’m going by memory but the numbers should be very close

RPM driving 75-78 MPH right at 2K RPM

MPG overhead computer 22MPG hand cal =19. something

When I drove to Colorado with factory BFG AT I got about 19 point something overhead and hand cal 18 point something… I drove about 65-75 RPM 1800 to 2200

Noise – you know you have some large meaty tires underneath no doubt. But sound level is not much more than the BFG All terrain I had on before. You will hear the slight roar of the tires gripping the pavement but you really don’t have to turn the radio up any louder because of the sound. You don’t have to scream at you passenger to get them to here you. My wife said they were not loud for spouse concerns…

cool info. yea I expect most of the rotational inirtia is due to the larger size and the fact that a lot of the load-range E beafiness (extra steel) is out towards the perimeter. moment of inirtia for those who care.



My BFG AT KOs are already 285/70-17 however. The TOYO 295/70s would be about 1/2" taller overall, and would lift the truck 1/4". so that isn't a big deal I wouldn't think, except for the fact that, still, the rotational initia of the TOYOs is large because they have more steel in them.



the price on these is just SCARY though. $340 per tire is insane. But there is no other load range E in that size I don't think. Now then I am tempted by the TOYO open country ATs they are load range E at 285/70-17 and well over $100 per tire cheaper!

The tires wear really well. . I have 20K miles on them already and I rotate them every 7K miles back to front and criss cross every other roatation. Looks like I have anoter 20K worth of rubber left...

nice! is that shipped, mounted and balanced? what was your source? do you tow with them [the tires, that is, not the store... ]?

I tow some not much… I have a 25 foot open car /landscape goose neck

No problems towing at all . When I tow is not much weight somewhere

In the neighbor hood of 6K lb. . I may tow 200 miles every 4 months if That much…



The tires I purchase from a small shop in Ft. Worth, Texas being local I just picked them up and had them balanced and mounted at a fix a flat tire place saved me about $40 bucks a tire. .

Shipping is extra I think somewhere around $30-60 per tire. . The tires are really heavy about 80 lb if my memory is correct…
