I need to get some E rated tires in the next 2 weeks. Has anyone had any experience with these tires? I was looking at the LT285/75R17 128S E/10 (34X11. 5R17). Any other suggestions would be great.

I had just that size. I bought them with 21K from a friend who carried a Callen steel framed cabover shell around with them on his '05 CTD. He never rotated or rebalanced them. That changed with me and I got another 15K safe miles out of them with my constant popup weight.

Mileage claims are all over the place with these, but I think rotation and rebalance every 5K stretches them out. They're super strong and require minimal weight to balance as do all Toyo products.

I'll get them again when my MT's wear out.

I ran a set of 285/70-17's. I got @ 40K miles out of them. Never had any problems. They rode good and got excellent traction on wet and dry pavement. Traction was not good on snow and ice. Never tried offroad.

Also you have to run that size at lower pressures unloaded to keep them wearing evenly across the tread. I run 48 psi in front and back unloaded to get even tire wear. They ctually ride better at higher psi, but you don't get even wear that way. Other then that they are a quiet, good handling, ez to balance, and nice riding tire. All that being said, I have never gotten over 25k miles from a set. FYI-- I AM liking the NItto Dura Grapplers that I got on Craigslist for a good price in that same size.

I stupidly ran two sets of 16's on my 01. At 30K they were worn beyond my comfort level. Proper inflation, rotation, blah, blah. Bought 18" wheels and am on my second set of Toyo M-55's. Got 50K out of first set. Great tire, but spendy. Last time I checked (couple of years?) Toyo didn't offer them in 17", thus the reason for going 18".

No, running empty. I had tools, a topper and such. Weighed in @ 7500lb. They were on the 3rd Gen alloys. If you were on steels I think they're a bit narrower which could've caused what you're describing. Mine were 285/70's, too.

I also tun about 7800# with my steel shell and rack and tools. I had the Toyo OC AT 285/75/17 LRE on stock 17" forged rims. Ran the tires from new at 65 psi for 15k before I saw the uneven wear (substantially less tread left in the centers).

On another note, I sure DO wish that Michelin would make a 285/75/17 LRE instead of the LRD which they already make.

The M-55's were my favorite tire. A petition of 125+ guys on another site requesting 285-70-17 M-55's went unheeded. I received a polite letter from them saying they would consult with the marketing dept. It's been two yrs. Nothing.

I just got them today for 310. 00 a tire! So far they are a huge upgrade from my pro comps. They are a much better ride and much more quiet.

I like mine - they handle weight wel and have more grip in the rain than the stock Michelins did. They go great in the snow too.
The only time I would recommend against that size is if your towing heavy with 3. 73 gears and stock power. They will lower your gearing enough to get you out of the power band and make the truck really doggy with a trailer. With the Smarty Jr set to 100 HP and 285's it tows nicely in OD and makes 5th gear much more usable since your not turning as high of revs you get more ratio in direct. I'm able to spend more time in 5th without the RPM's being up there.

I had that exact tire for our trip to Alaska. We put on 10,325 miles, and I stopped in the middle to rotate the tires once. I left with 80% tread on the tires, and returned 23 days later with 10% tread. Total weight was always 20k - 22k. The tires handled superbly, and I put them through alot. Part of the trip included over 500 miles of offroad on gravel/dirt/rutted stuff. This was always in 4wd high, running 40 - 60 mph. Even pulling a 34' bumper pull camper, these tires and the Carli suspension glued the truck to the road incredibly.

Toyo's are arguable the absolute best tire you can buy. The only two categories where they fall short, are treadware and price.

I got nearly 70k on my original BFG's. They still had some tread left, but I decided to replace them because of some cuts on the sidewalls from Baja rocks. Switched over to the Toyo's. I now have 145k on the truck and the Toyo's have plenty of tread left. (Mileage isn't exact because I also have a set of Toyo M/T's on 18" Welds, and those have been on the truck occasionally for probably 10k at various times, but mostly in the desert) When these wear out, I'll be getting another set of the A/Ts.

That makes 75K miles on the Toyo's with "plenty of tread left".

Sorry buddy. Got to throw the BS flag on that.

My first set of Toyos will be my last set. Very poor wear and no help from Les Schwab where I bought them Its Michelens all the way for me.

My stock Michilins would just about get stuck in the rain. Great quality tires but they have no wet grip.

When I bought the Toyo's I read many testimonials that claimed both good and bad tread life. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
