Toyo Open Country MT - do they wear out fast???

They look great, and have great sidewall safety and durability BUT will they last. or are they a 25-30,000 mile tire?????

Guys I know that have run them..... yeah, 25/30K. Stick with your M-55's.

I have had the Toyo's for about 52k. I did have to get 2 new ones because I had bad ball joints. The two original ones are are still fine. Rotated them once. They are on the front right now and have a little time left on them. Great thing is they're E-rated. I don't know anything about the M-55's so can't compare them. Just my 2 cents.

Excellent tire IMO, I had a set of 295's. However I don't think they are all that for towing, the open pattern would wear fast when loaded. I tow and got cold feet with them for that purpose and sold them while they were still fairly new to a fella that won't need them for towing.



Now running the Nitto Highway Terrain, not near the macho look but once rolling down the road its all smiles.

Toyo Tires

I have run Toyo's for years on many rigs. I use the Highway tread as I have studded tires on extra rims for winter driving so do not need those aggressive treads.



I have never had a problem and have them rotated at 4000 miles and have always gotten in the 50 thousand mile range out of them. We hauled a 10 ft camper for 30 plus years with no problem and now pull the 5th Wheel with new Toyo's on the Truck.



I keep them at 75 lbs pressure front and 80 in the rear when loaded. .

I have about 40k on my Open County AT's. I know there are not the exact same as the MT's but there may be some comparison there.

Since this is a thread about the Toyo Open Country MT (mud terrain??),

I would love it if people who are using them could chime in on road noise (singing, humming) at highway speeds.

I really like the look of these tires and their load rating and size availability... I do tow heavy occasionally, but not enough I think to wear them down too quickly, and it seems as if people are getting good to great mileage out of them, but...

I DO like a relatively quiet tire.

So, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 to 3 being quiet like my Michelin AT2s, and maybe 8 to 10 like the old BFG MT's I ran once, wear do these Toyos come in in terms of road noise??

Do you have ear plug's you can wear I for one do not like the noise, ,may be in the 8 to 9 range noise wise.

I DO like a relatively quiet tire.

I wouldn't buy them then however. . Noise level is pretty low "for an MT tire" but do not compare noise wise to A/T's. Rotations every 5 to 7K and good alignment are key to keeping the noise down. If you have run MT's in the past these should have less noise than others.

OK. thanks guys, guess I'll be looking at the AT or HT in order to preserve my peace of driving. I was looking into these cause it seems as if many are getting better mileage from them then the AT's--don't know yet about the HTs.

I have 43000 on my Toyo open country AT pulling a 10,000 lb 5th wheel and still have some tread left but they are wearing more on the inside of the tread than the outside so I'm reducing pressure from 80 psi to 70 psi in rear and 70 psi to 65psi in the front.

I,ve run Michelins in the past and never had that king of problem. Always ran them at 80 and 80 and got great mileage ,about 45,000 miles. Good luck with your choice.

Is your truck 4x4 or 4x2?? I am only getting 22k out of my Michelin AT2's on my 4x4. I weigh out, empty, at 8200#, on my 4x4--I think that definitely contributes to wear, as well as the poorly maintained roads I mostly drive.



Matt, do you know if the HT's are M/S rated??



I think I am going to start a new thread on the HT, as there is no one yet, but many on the AT and MTs.
