17,000 miles ago, which was this past summer, I bought a set of new Toyo Open Country's from my neighborhood Les Schwab Store, where I have bought all my tires for the past 27 years. I loved the tires, except they weren't wearing well for me. They have a 50,000 mile warranty, but were down to 9/32 at 17,500 miles. The new depth was 16/32. The warrantied them out for me for a set of Toyo's M 55's. I've had great luck with these in the past - but this is the first time that they made these in 265's. They do have an E rating.

Schwab apparently takes over 90% of M55 production. They have a rock compound in their tires for resistent to abrasion, that's why they wear so well. I'll see how they do on my rig. This is the first set they have put on a Dodge, as they just came out. They are noiser, and MUCH stiffer than the open countries I just replaced. Also, they are so new, they DON'T even have them on the spec sheets as yet BUT they do have the following:

5 Full Plies on the tread! 3 steel and two poly and 3 on the sidewall! I was told that these are the toughest tire casing made in this size.

hammersley, I was sad to read about your experience with the Open Countrys. I just bought a set. I hope my experience proves better. Do you remember what inflation pressures you were running?

Hammersley.....

I too bought a set of Open country's. Similarly, mine appear to have worn quite fast. I just took them off an put on my winter tires. I will check the tread depth today and post later.

It is good to know they have the "warranty program" to swithch to another tire.

You will love them

I have 8,900 miles on my 265 M-55s and so far so good:D I also am a long time toyo user. They do make some noise but loose your muffler and you wont even notice! I had them mounted on my alcoa's and put on the truck before it left the stealer. boy were they upset when they found out the stock wheels off my 02 would not mount on the rear axle of the 99 I traded in:D My old Alcoa's fit my new truck just fine and the after sale order said nothing about problems on there end so when the service dept said they could not do the swap because the wheels didn't fit the trade I showed them the after sale order and said tuff $#!%:rolleyes: an hour later I had my wheels and tires on my new truck and they had my trade on a rack with no rear wheels:{ :{

Toyo Open Country

I have 14,000 miles on the Open country and they are down to 8/32 also. these tires also wear in the center real bad even with 40 pounds in the rears running empty. I do air them up to 70 when packing my Lance. My son changed his out at 25,000 miles. His origional Michelins went 45,000 miles. I think Schwabs will quit advertizing these tires as their BEST.

My tire pressure

I rotated these every 5,000 miles and run 45 in rear - (empty) - and 55 in front (also empty). My truck with me in it weighs 7450 at the recycling center when I leave. Now I have a Raven fiberglass shell and some built in tool boxes - wooden - These miles were not with a heavy trailer.

You guys are not providing words of encouragement! I, too, put on a set of the 285/70 Open Countrys early this fall. I only have about 5K miles on them (ready for their first rotation), so they still look pretty good. But I'm eyeing them regularly and they may be wearing in the center more than they should.

This is a good "heads up".

Yeah, I'm not feelin' real positive towards Toyo right about now. Even though I got a fair deal ($721. 00 out the door) for 4 tires, that's till a BUNCH of money for tires that'll only go 25K!

Hopefully, I'll have a better experience, but I ain't gonna hold my breath!

I have M606s on my truck, only have 5000 or so miles on them. To early to tell if there is a wear issue. The place I buy them from sells quite a few to local construction companys with good results.

I've had M55s on some of my other trucks in the past. I got almost 70,000 on a set before one started to separate, they still had about 3 or 4/32 on them. That truck was not as heavy as our diesels.

I have 25K on my Toyo Open Countries... . 285's. Just had them rotated last Friday... . every 5K. No tread measurements taken, but they clearly look 1/2 gone, but that means I'd be taking them off at ~40K since I don't run any tires down too far. I've been running 45lbs. front and 40lbs. rear..... always empty and don't tow. I've never had high expectations that a 7K lb. truck would get much more than 40K from tires, even though I see lots of posts here where people get much more than that. I want and must have 285's, and will compromise on the longevity to have them. I deal with a very good Schwab dealer who always treats me right before and after the sale. I even have "designated tire rotation" guys since they know I'm so anal about my truck and wheels:(

Just a "FYI"

When I took off my OEM Michelins, they had 69,500+ miles on them and they were not quite down to the wear bars. I did nothing special with these tires. As a matter of fact, I didn't even rotate them the last 20,000 miles!

Those Michelins were VERY GOOD TIRES. I just wanted something bigger, hence the Toyos. If these Toyos don't last, I'll be going back to OEM.

I'm going to look at my build sheet

But as I posted early, mine came with Michelins and at 11,000 ish, YES 11,000, mine were 50% GONE! I don't understand what grade of tire I had - but they lasted WAY to Short!!!!!!!!!

I've got 30K on my Open Country's and lots of tread left. I bounce between 75-80 psi in the rear when I'm towing and 45-50 when empty. Believe it or not, my front end weight only goes up 50lbs when I'm towing. My original michelins only lasted 30k. I was really disappointed.

Merry Xmas to everyone.

Put a set of 265 Open Country's on during vacation in Idaho this summer. Sure hope I have better luck with my Toyo's than some of you folks that have posted so far. 6K on them and no "noticeable" wear, but I haven't pulled out the tread tester, either:(

I had 48K on my factory Michelin's, and they weren't down to the wear bars. I gave them and the factory wheels to one of my brothers in trade for some work he did for me. Maybe I'll be calling him back:D

I can't find size 265. If they do make the 265 I hope they make it in a 85R size 75R doesn't cut it. The ONLY Toyo you want is the M55.

Thanks

Peter
