I have an old '81 Toyota 4x4 pickup in the shop right now for a bunch of repairs. It has the 22R engine and 5 speed transmission. One of the problems is the shifter. It seems to be setting too low in the top of the trans and is just below the guide pins on the sides so it spins. My question is should there be some sort of spacer between the neck of the trans and the shifter like a nylon collar or something? The cheap aftermarket books never show much on transmissions so that is no help. Anyone out there work on one of these and know what should be in there? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I did a clutch in one once but it was a long time ago...
Thanks,
Mark
