I recently had my transmission rebuilt and had the 3 to OD search problem. Knowing that it had been covered many times, I did a search and got the full scoop. Not wanting to mess with the electronic testing, I went straight to the adjustment phase.

I can't recall the poster, but the recommendation was to remove the sleeves in the securing holes and rotate the unit counterclockwise. I did this and the problem appeared the same, or slightly worse. Any let off of the pedal under 60 mph would drop me into 3rd gear.

I loosened the unit and went all the way back clockwise and secured it. It's just like it used to be. I never had it where it would drop out of OD until I was around 30-35 mph. I usually push the button myself on the way down and shift up manually after 45 mph.

Question is, will this cause problems in the long haul?

If you are running empty those shift points are fine. If you are towing and putting the power down 45 is to slow to upshift to OD. The biggest killer of the OD is a heavy load, high power, and low trans line pressure. That will kill it very fast. A lot will also depend on how the trans builder setup the line pressures and clearanced the OD clutches.

Clocking the TPS should not have to be done if you have it setup correctly. If it is dropping out of OD early the TPS voltage is to low too soon and you need to adjust it up. It won't hurt anything except the vehicle behind you that is following too close and not paying attention when you lose 15 mph in a hurry. Well, it may hurt your truck also.

I have mine set to drop out of OD at about 35 and upshift to OD at 45 under light throttle and 60 at full throttle. That keeps it out of the TQ band when I am hammering it but allows a decent shift when I am taking a Sunday drive. To make it do that I had to make adjustments to the TPS, throttle pressure, line pressure, OD solenoid pressure, and throttle linkage.

No, it won't cause a problem in my humble opinion. I shift mine manually quite often. If I don't push the button, she will stay in OD till I hit 30 or so. It will go IN about 35 when I light foot it, 60 or better if I don't.

If you don't mind shifting there are other ways to by-pass the TPS.

I'm told you don't want to lug these trannies therefore, I will shift her out of OD when I get down near 40. I'm always working the button. That's why I wanted it on the shifter as opposed to the dash. Sometimes... ... I'm even to lazy to have to reach up "ALL" the way to the lever to shift, and just have the wife do it :D Voice Commands

Sounds like you need a TP... ... ... on second thought..... what will you take for this "busted truck" ?? I'll be down in August.

:) :) :) :) :) :)
