GREETINGS All,

I Tried the TPS mod posted in the recent TDR issue 83 (pg 92-93) offerd by Mr Dalgleish.
I had normal voltage readings (.862) as per factory manual with no jumps indicating my TPS was in good shape ;-)

I Round filed the holes as per the MOD but was unable to get to 1.8 v @ idle. I filed quite a bit of plastic out and I have a considerable counter clock wise range of movement but; the best I can get is 1.45 V. / 4.02 WOT

I will not file further as it will compromise the integrity of the "mounting hole supports"

anyone have a simliar experience? Curious as to why I can't gain the 1.8 v

Could I have a tired TPS or ??? it is the original unit with 135,000 miles/

thanks for any/all input on this seemingly simple mod but mysterious just the same.

thanks for your reply. yeh dunno but gonna go see what the new lugs look like at the.local autoparts store... k think my unit prob is worn.. lotta.bucks for.a.new.one.too. thanks again for.your reply will upload comparison pics.if it turns out to be the problem

Joe G sent me the link for the potentiometer trick just yesterday. I'm going to install on Monday. Seems to be a more productive route than filing the mounting holes in the tps. Also, if installed in the dash you have adjustment capability while driving.

thanks. can u share the link.... the lugs were fine when compared to a new tps.

thanks all for your replies. and the link.

i had the same issue with modding the tps. i got it filed down to the point that i was seeing thin spots on the outside of the tps. i noticed that there was a lot of room between the tps slot and the spade from the side of the injection pump that fits into the slot. i took one of the barrel fittings that i removed from the tps. i cut it down and squezed it onto the spade end to take up the spare room in the tps slot. i instantly got well over 2 volts. i wonder if this could be done to an unmodified tps with the barrels removed to get the voltage without modding the tps..? i need to readjust the tps becuase i currently have 1.73 volts and it unlocks at a coast speed of 39mph.

In got mine installed about a week ago. Drives like it should have from the factory! No more torque converter unlocking and I can control the lockup points somewhat. It fixed another governor spring bounce problem I was having as I was able to adjust the shifts slightly higher in the rpm range.

Same here. I went.with the potentiometer from radioshack and mounted the rig above the 4wd shifter in the cab. What a Difference.
The only issue is not having a proper environmental plug to match the tsp pigtail. Tinning wires and pins then heatshrinking is working but, a proper connector would sure give me a warm and fuzzy. Anyone do this and manage to find or engineer a connector that fits that tsp pigtail?

Thanks

I too went with the potentiometer from RadioShack. Awesome mod! I cut the TPS wire leaving the connector behind. I then just soldered and heat shrunk the wires. That way, I could easily go back to the TPS if I didn't like the mod. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
