TSP - pics, questions

well i replaced my tsp at 59k miles right after i bought the truck used. it has run fine since then but now it is acting up bad again. just driving down the road on a trip from indiana to florida this weekend... ... wham... wacko it went!! in/out..... up/down 100-250 rpm. feels like it is getting ready to shift into overdrive and doesn't.

so..... i get out the lap top with some saved info on how to check the voltages. got to walmart and bought voltmeter/wire/paperclips/tape etc. and checked the voltages... they were fine. i tuned them in to 1. 00 and 3. 8v. no spikes while running the throttle back and forth... . get back out on the road and no help... . so i run up the idle voltage to 1. 05-1. 10-and finally 1. 20. nothing helps. so i take the thing off and clean the **** out of it and nothing helps. so i am home now. i still have the old tsp. i cut it open and took some pics for illflem. looks like you can drill a weep hole in the side above the mold line towards the back side. i still need to clean the melted plastic up and smooth everything out. i would like to keep the new one in the truck and not have to put this cut up one back in.

anyway... what can i do from here? i heard there is a capacitor filtering method by way of a 440uf 35vdc capacitor. has anyone used this method? looks like this is what i will try next. any suggestions? i just don't want to spend another $175 on a tsp. thanks. scott. -- email address removed --

btw,

the three wires going to the tsp are:

orange?

purple?

and black= must be ground...

which one is signal? orange?

which one is signal return? purple?

one more thing....

when i had the first tps replaced, it was not bouncing all over the voltage range when sitting still. when the trans guy hooked up a fancy snap on box under the dash while riding down the road, he said he could see the voltages jumping. i don't know because i was driving. if that's the case, then you really can't tell when your tps is bad? i am really frustrated at this point. thanks. scott.

Can I see your pics?

I'm having the same problem that you are! it is a PITA no doubt.

I'm going to replace the TPS but just have not done it yet. Lazy.

shreden,

I believe you can use key on/off method, scan tool or laptop( with proper disc and connector) and see if any fault code have been stored in PCM.

Just to make sure its not another sensor or torque convertor messing up.

big yellow, this is something that i have to take care of NOW. i can't drive the truck jerking and kicking up and down... .

what is the key on/off method?? i have not a clue what you are talking about...

thanks. scott.

Do a search here on TPS. Follow the directions for the TPS fix that describes removing the TPs, punching out the guides in the bolt holes, oblong the holes, and adjust the TPS according to specs posted. However, I had the best luck just driving it down the road, checking the shift points, and getting out and adjusting it until it shifted like it should. Before I did this the TPS would cause OD to shift in and out about 10-15 times in a thirty mile trip. After - no OD dropout.

well, like i said. mine is adjusted to spec. 1. 0v at idle and 3. 8v wot. mine is in and out about 10 times every minute or so.

thanks ryan.

i had a new brake switch installed when the stealer thought that's what it was on the first tps. maybe they didn't adjust it correctly. i don't know. throttle springs? it just all of a sudden whacked out. that's why i am thinking it's something electrical.

i just went out and checked the mil. no fault codes showed up.

has anyone tried the capacitor filter?
