All she told me what that the TPS used to be covered and now its not. She said that she didn't check ahead of time because it had always been covered in the past but that changed at some point. I know, that is a lame answer. They were aware of the Edge before I brought the truck in since I had my truck towed there before with a dead lift pump. They did that repair for free and said not to worry about the Edge. This time they did ask me to take it off before I brought it in, but did not say that was the reason it wasn't covered. Also, they are going to to my front u-joints Friday, and they are saying that is covered under warranty. I guess I should look at my paperwork before-hand a little better. My truck only has 56,000 miles on it so it is covered by the factory and an extended warranty. Neither warranty covered it. I guess it is just not a warranty repair anymore.

But if I am wrong, and I am truely, legitimately covered, somebody tell me what to do now! I just don't want to ram it down their throats if this lady made an honest mistake, and I do trust her.

I would say that if its an honest mistake , and the both of you want to continue to do bis together , that splitting the bill is fare .
Legally you entered a contract with them that said warranty , they can be forced to foe fill the contract , if you took it to court [ this is where knowing / talking to both sides , come in ] if as you said , the court would force them to refund your money , but you like them so some return would be fair .
Have a sit down with the manager / owner , and say that 1st you like doing bis with them , but you said OK to warranty , maybe some credit for future work / parts .

OK, like I said I was just curious.

I would think that if you were to figure out, with in a reasonable time frame that she made an honest mistake, that they would likely refund your money with out question. If they did not want to and you were covered I think you could take it up the dealership/company chain until you got ur money back.

I would doubt that the dealership would care where the money came from ie: DC from the warranty or from u as long as they get paid.

If it were me, I would check around to see if the TPS is indeed no longer covered, why, etc and I would pursuit it, if you found that a mistake was made.

Maybe call a different dealership and ask and search here. What does the warranty book say for your truck. usually there is a section on excluded parts etc. I wouldnt think that it could be dropped mid warranty period, but I am not sure about that.

Could work out that u end up getting a check for what u paid, cut to you. U can only gain from checking further.

Hope this helps,

TPS Problem

Hi all- I apologize for the long delay in answering. The job has kept me busy and I tried a fix covered in a previous thread. I didn't believe my battery posts were that dirty, but i cleaned them with baking soda and distilled water. For about 2 weeks, truck rn great, then just recently, came back again, then seemed to "fix" itself. It ran good for another 10 days, then just yesterday with the cruise on coming home, the truck acted up again. I put my foot on the accelerator pedal and it was depressed almost to the floor. I disconnected the cruise, pushed and depressed the accel pedal and the truck has ran fine since.

I believe the TPS is bad and am going to treplace it this weekend, $232. 00 from NAPA. (In stock)

KDunn, do yourself a favor and wrap the alternator ground wire with 2 layers of tin foil and then tape. The early 24v's seem to have a problem in this area and if it eliminates the problem you may well save the expense of investing in a new TPS/APPS. Either way, get a noise filter from DTT and read his instructions for resetting the TPS. My 99' has gone through this lock/un-lock since it was new and (at that time) DC had no fix. Thanks again to TDR and it's members for doing the factories R&D... and by the way, thanks to all A&P's... without you guys I wouldn't have had a job.

Same thing happens to me every couple of years. I started by adding a noise filter and cleaning the terminals. Works like a charm. As long as I keep my terminals clean and keep the filter hooked into the APPS line there is never a problem.

Try the aluminum foil trick first. Check all grounds. Keep the battery terminals clean and add a filter. I'll bet it solves your problems.

Good luck

wow, $232 for a TPS is cheap. I'm assuming this is the same as an APPS? Mine has been throwing the code that says MAP voltage doesnt agree with TPS, and a guy told me it was the APPS. I did the reset thing as shown on here, and it has ran fine for me for several months, but every now and then it rears its ugly head, like the other week when I ran it. Just a matter of time before I have to replace it I imagine, but I though it was like $600. $200 from NAPA is nice.
