On my dodge whenever i would get around 60-70 mph the rpm's would surge up and down like mad. I was just about ready to take it to the local cummins shop when i talked with my grandpa he said i should try to spray it down really good with wd-40 so i did i figured it couldent hurt anything i used almost half the can i sprayed the throttle cable as well. I have been driving it now for two days probably close to 120 miles mostl of it at 60-80 mph with no problems the truck runs so smooth know it's un belivable.

So if you are having problems with your TPs try this before you take it to a shop.

Thanks for the post.

I had the same problem last year. I did about the same thing. I used electric contact cleaner and silicone spray. No problems since. Each oil change I try to remember to do the same thing. Working so far.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

does the surge only come around each year when cold weather sets in?? no problems during summer etc. ? cover your transmission cooler with card board etc. or run fanless in the winter will stop the surging also.

I'd stay away from the silicone spray on the TPS, you might insulate the conductors. I had a time once when welding some steel that had the spray on it, couldn't get a good ground. Some forms of silicone conduct electricity, but not the spray.

WD?

I would think that good ol' WD-40 would attract dust and other contaminants in this application. Wouldn't plain old contact cleaner, the kind that's safe around plastics, be a better choice?

I have no doubt that WD will clean it up and make it work, but still I'd be concerned about WD's tendency to "gum up" with dirt over the long haul. I 'spose if a guy hosed it down on a regular basis, they'd make out alright.

Happy New Year!
