Dodge has ordered a TPS sensor for my 99 3500 turbo diesel, Can I replace it my self or should the dealer do it ? If so , how is it done. 99 3500 turbo diesel 2WD

You can do it, but I recommend following the instructions in the shop manual. If you don't have a shop manual, you should get one anyway. My recollection is that it is pretty straightforward, except the first time you turn the key on (WITHOUT starting the engine), you're supposed to slowly press the accelerator pedal to the floor and slowly release it so the APPS/TPS gets calibrated properly. Also, watch out for the cruise control cable connector. It is plastic, and if you try to pry it off, you will break it. Slide it forward to disconnect it. The APPS/TPS itself is supposed to be already calibrated.

Well that may be true, but it needs to be adjusted after install to get the proper voltage at rest and full throttle. There are 2 bolts that hold the TPS on the linkage and the TPS has some play to achieve the correct voltage. Some report that the only way to get it adjusted is to remove the metal sleeves in the mounting holes so there is more room to adjust.

If memory serves, and it may not, you measure the voltage from the middle connecter to ground with a digital VOM and the ignition on but not running. I think it's 1. 2 volts at rest and 4. 3 volts at full throttle.

I was only repeating what the service manual says. Nowhere in the manual does it specify the voltages, only that you're not supposed to change the TPS/APPS calibration. That's why I said it's "supposed" to be calibrated.

DTT used to have TPS voltage info on their website and/or message forum. Good Luck.
