I've had a little problem for the last 2 weeks or so. The engine stumbles or fades then picks right back up. This happend 2 or 3 times before check engine light came on just befor e the 1st of the year . The check engine light came on showed up. I checked for codes and found

P0122

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

P1693

Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction

I did a little checking around and fopund that there is a TSB for something like this but had not taken the truck in yet. Later that same day the lght went off and I had no promlems.....

Until yesterday. When the check engine light came on again and I drove home before checking it and again

P0122

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

P1693

Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction

This morning however things got a little scary. I was cruising down I-70 in the fast lane out of the mountains into Denver when the truck had no power at all. I had to cut across 3 lanes to make an exit. By the time I coasted to a stop 4 codes showed up

P0121

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem

P0216

Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction

P0122

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

P1693

Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction

Couple of questions:

Who does the best work in Denver Stealer or other wise?

Should I take off my BHAF and replace my factory air box before I go in?

Can I fix this myself with a new cummins TPS?

Anything to check before I bring it in?

Anyone want to trade labor and time for FREE BEER?

Thanks

Sandbrew,

I can't shed any light on your problem, but if it turns out that your TPS (now called the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor - APPS)

really is bad, I have a brand new one, still in the box for your truck that I no longer need, and will sell cheaper than you can get it from the dealer or from Cummins. You and I have identical trucks.

Several months back, my truck was experiencing a severe "de-fueling" problem. After diagnosing the thing for a while, and

reading similar TDR threads, I was certain my APPS was toast, so I ordered a new one from Cummins West. Before I even opened

the box to install it, I found out the wastegate on my turbo was toast instead of the APPS, and so after I disabled the wastegate,

problem solved!

So... I have a brand new APPS for sale if anyone wants it.

As per the 01 service manual here are the code definitions.

0121 APPS signal voltage low. input voltage below minimum

0122 same as above

0216 Fuel injection pump timing failure. high supply restriction, low fuel pressure, or wrong timing key.

1693 DTC detected in companion module.

I would first be checking your transfer pump under load not like the service manual dictates. I have also had them intermittanty fail then work again. I think that might be the source of your 216 code.

You need to find someone to find out what the fault is in the other module, and sweep your APPS with a volt meter to see if it is in the proper range.

I had a similiar problem which turned out to be a timing problem with the Injection pump. The problem was intermittent and when it happened I could move the accelerator back and forth and nothing would happen. It was if the accelerator was disconnected but the APPS was good. Replaced the pump at about 90,000 under warranty.

I just had my inection pump replaced at the dealer after they jerked me around a bit. After I pulled the codes 1693 & 0216

they looked a little further than the fuel filter. The 0216 code is a problem with pump timing which I had it sounded like the truck was surging at about 2000 rpm. Hope this helps.
