About a month ago my trans was hunting in and out of overdrive between 40-50mph. Checked the TPS voltage and found it was low. Adjusted it and trans was perfect again.

Now its hunting in and out of overdrive again but to my surprise the voltage is fine. So my question is can a TPS be bad even though its holding the correct voltage?

TPS Voltage

What voltage setting are you using? When I replaced mine, I couldn't get it as low as the supplier suggested (. 065 or close to that), so I called and he advised . 085 (which was as low as we could get it) was ok - drive it and dont worry about it. The trans o/d lock may be another electronic problem (at least mine was). Would lock and unlock then lock back up. I had to have dealer re-flash the the electronic system - that was 5 yrs ago and never had the problem again.

The voltage can be just fine and still have the lock and unlock problem if the alternator is adding spikes on the DC line voltage. Call BD and order one of their APPS filters. It is easy to install. think it is around 20 bucks , now, but works!

On the back of the TPS it says . 585 I believe so thats what I adjusted it to.

I tried the aluminum foil on the alternator wire trick and it didn't seem to help so looks like I will be buying the appropriate noise filter and hope that solves it.

. 585 sounds like it - The lowest we could adj. it to it to was . 825 - at that setting the throttle seems to take more advance (more pedal) before the rpm icreases but it does advance ok and no problems.

The voltage is different for each vehicle as the mechanics of the apps are not all the same. This voltage is set to insure that the correct voltage will cause the engine to idle at the right rpm. In other words, not all of the mechanical parts in the fuel assembly are not all perfect and the voltage for that particular assembly is required to get the correct idle rpm. Thats why, until recently, you could not buy just the apps. you had to buy the whole assembly and it was calibrated at the factory, until an after market one came on board You can try all the aluminum around all the wires you want to and it will not stop the problem for good. The problems are the AC spikes from the alternator! Get the filter from BD and you will have no more problems.
