The shift to overdrive has been erratic for some time now, one day solid, next day not so good. I have cleaned the TPS and connector with contact cleaner regulary.

Last weekend I was looking things over and noticed that the Distance Senser had a broken nut and was hanging kinda funny. The distance senser is located on the tail shaft of the transmission.

I finally located one at a dealership and replaced. This senser runs the speedometer and cruise control, I think.

When I changed the senser the shift into overdrive has been rock solid for over a week now. I also readjusted the TPS voltage to 1 volt and things are fine.

I still carry a spare TPS for the time it completely gives out and it will some day.

For those who are at witts end on the TPS issue of shifting good and bad take a look at the Distance senser, just by design it has to wear.

Good catch Jim. The speed/distance sensor is almost as important in the computers shift logic as the TPS. The s/d sensor just has a little loose parameters to work in so failures don't show up as fast.
