The wire colors where the same for the signal, but the power was black/blue stripe and the ground was brown/white stripe. I'll double check these tomorrow but thats what they were if I remember correctly.

i doubt the power was black/blue... ... . that was your ground.

brown? could that have been a dirty purple?

where were you checking these? right at the tps connector?

yup, right at the back of the TPS at the connector.

I'll double check in the morning but I am sure all of them had a stripe on them.

Wouldn't surprise me if my truck was a bit different from everybody elses. That just seems to be my luck with this truck. I've put about $9,000 in this truck the 2 years I've owned it just to keep it on the road. Short block, 3 trans. , and front end rebuild. I should have never bought the truck but hindsight is 20/20. The blown engine and 2 of the trans happened within 3 months of buying the truck.

The voltages were high. somewhere around 4V goin down the road at WOT. Jumped around alot as I drove down the road. Called a mechanic where my mom use to work and went over it with him. He said that the TPS was bad. So I asked him about rewiring it to avoid the "noise". He said that wasn't the cause since my voltages were really high, that the "noise" creates low voltage.

i don't agree. did you call bill kondolay?

it only takes 5 minutes to rewire it.

what were the voltage flucuations driving at cruise speed say 65-70mph?

I forgot to take Bill's # w/ me

The voltages where all over the place so it was hard to get one number. It hit as high as 7 at any given time.

And aparently there is some sort of adjustment to the TPS. Since I was talking to the mechanic I had him pull the service records for my truck and they adjusted it.

And a side note the kickdown cable was about 1/2" out of whack.

Tomorrow I am going to try rewireing it.

Mine is a 94.

The 5 volt wire is violet with a white tracer

The Signal wire is orange with a dark blue tracer

The Ground wire is black with a light blue tracer

At idle position, the signal wire should read about 1 volt (mine reads 0. 8 volt)

As the throttle is advanced, the signal voltage will increase and should be between 4 & 5 volts at full throttle.

I don't think the 94 cabling is as prone to noise (induced voltage) problems as the later models. In this truck, the 5 volt wire is dedicated to the TPS only while in later years they use it for the engine speed and vehicle speed sensors as well.

If you do suspect a noise problem the best way to eliminate that is to do, like shendren did, and cut loose the 5 volt and signal wires and replace them with a shielded pair.

Also, make sure the grounding is good.

You will find it in a group of several black wires with white tracers combined at a large bolt at the front of the engine on the driver's side next to #1 cylinder.
