Truck is at dealers for various leak repairs. Requested tracbar replacement under 7yr/100k chrysler extended warranty. Svc writer just called and said they won't cover it. My warranty book is in truck so I can't check it out.

They want $525. 00 to do it. I DON'T THINK SO!

Anybody have this covered under extended warranty?

If not, what is the best way to go for aftermarket? Moog/Napa?

Thanks, TC

The track bar was not covered under the 'Added Care' warranty but was covered on the 'Maxi Care' warranty - we had two '96 2500s. $525 sounds about right for what I got charged. It didn't solve the problem so the dealer ended up re-installing the original track bar and refunding the charge.

Guess I won't know until I get my truck back and can read the warranty. This wouldn't be the first time they were "mistaken".

Pit Bull,

Does your warranty cover 'suspension control arms' or does it cover everything except what is specifically excluded? On the '96 the 'added care' version covered control arms and DC warranty admin toed the line that a track bar is not a control arm since it is not specifically named a control arm. I went round and round with them on this one and when they agreed to re-installing the 'bad' track bar and refunding the charge I accepted it. There was no difference in how the truck drove with the new vs the bad track bar. It wasn't the problem - Glen Thomas Dodge in Long Beach, CA just shot gunned it and hoped.....

The maxi care warranty on the other '96 is an exclusion type warranty and covered the track bar no questions asked.

Your right I am screwed. I had a new track bar installed under warranty at 34K miles. My diesel wrap service contract does not list "track bar" so it is the one component that is not covered. guess when this one fails I'll go with a lukes link.

Just replaced mine in driveway, Carquest/MOOG DS-1413. Lifetime warranty. Took a good set of needle nose pliers, a set of 1/2" drive 6point sockets, hammer, torquewrench and a sixpack to do it. Undo passenger end and then ball/socket end on driver side and beat on it till it falls out. A pittman arm puller does help, but it will shift on you unless you can wedge it.

Piece of cake even for the mechanically challenged amongst us
