track bar noise?

well i replaced my track bar about 400 miles ago... . some of you remember. and tonight i was driving home and heard a chink, chink sound when going over bumps with the window down at slow speed. (yes, we have the windows down here!) got up on the bumper and lifted up and down and then had the wife do it and got underneath and lo and behold it was the ball joint end of the track bar??



i just got the new rubber boot from the guys who sold me the bar. could it be out of grease? it's definitely not loose. there is a rinky dink boot on there now. i can't see how it could be dry. what could this sound be? thanks. scott.

Maybe it is loose. If you used grease or anti-seize on the tapered shafts they will never get tight. Tapered shafts should be installed clean.

nope, i did my homework and installed the pin/bolt dry and clean. i'll check it tomorrow. thanks. scott.

every dodge ive had made this noise

it turned out to be the bottom shock bolt

the bolt is smaller than the hole in the shock and the shock slips in the shackle.

when you hit a bump just right it makes noise like someone is hitting on the floor board with a hammer.

take the factory metric bolt out and replace with a 9/16" bolt if I remember right.

that should take the slop out
