I bought and had installed the SolidSteel trackbar bracket and an '03 trackbar. The steering is much improved but there is still too much steering wheel movement for my taste compared to my Dodge Grand Caravan. Is there anything more to be done? Thanks.
I put the 03 track bar, the steering box brace and a PSC steering box on mine and it steers better then new now. The steering box brace will make a big difference and if you can't adjust the slop out of your steering box the PSC box is the way to go.
Yes there is a kit out there to install an 03/3rd Gen trac bar on your 2nd Gen truck. Seems to be the way to go. Or the Thuren adjustable trac bar. Then the DSS seems to help out a lot also, but if you offroad (which most of you all don't) when the frame flexes it will still move the shaft and inturn still crush the seal in the steering box, no matter what steering box you have. There is a guy on PS.com who modified his DSS to mount on one side of the frame since that was a constant problem on his even with the PSC steering box and Hydro steer set up. Also you can get the 98 Heavy Duty steering set up that is an inverted T, so your'll loose the inverted Y set up which seems to be the issue with the Dodge steering. 98 Heavy Duty Steering set up Here is a link to PS.com where it is talked about with part #'s and pictures of what it looks like compared to the stock inverted Y set up. This set up has solved almost everyones problem who has go to it.
RRuggles, another thing to do is have someone turn your steering wheel while you look at the pitman arm of your steering box. If it wobbles or shifts back and forth you could really benefit from a DSS (Darin steering stabilizer). It supports the exposed end of the steering box shaft and can really help steering. . . it did on my truck.
