I replaced my trackbar recently with a MOOG DS1413. I immediately felt an improvement with the wandering the truck was doing. The old trackbar had about 1/4 inch of play at the joint end. About three days later I started feeling a knocking in the steering wheel which got a little worse the more I drove it during the day and of course the wandering is back. I had a front end shop align it and take a look at all the suspension parts. No problem found although I do see some play on Pitman arm. Do not know if this is normal or not. I looked at parts again this weekend and I noticed that the trackbar bushing now gives more than 1/4 inch side to side play when moving the steering wheel back and forth. Is that normal???? Anyone else have this? The knocking is driving me crazy.

Could that be causing the knocking in steering wheeel?

hey Kraut,

The pitman arm shouldn't have play, although there isn't a replacement as of yet, other than the dealer.

Your trackbar bushing also should not have any play, and yea, thats prolly causing yer knocking and with the bad pitman arm, your wander too.

It sounds to me...

like you have diagnosed your own problem. I was concerned with the anchor end of mine when I put the Luke's Link on but it was still tight after I got everything reinstalled. If you can see 1/4" play, I would eliminate that before looking elsewhere.

Energy suspension makes a replacement for track bar end. I just put one on a new bar and it only cost $7. 95.
