Trackbar Removal?

Any tricks to removing the trackbar?



I have just short of 200K on my original and it seems a little loose. Ordered Lukes Link to tighten things up.

A cottered nut on one end and a bolt & nut on the other, if I remember right. Wrench and hammer.

Just did this job last week with a Luke's Link. It seems to be a superior product.



Right side is just a bolt with a special blind nut. Mine was super tight a took a bit of muscle, a breaker bar, and a 5 pound sledge to get loose.



The driver side cotter nut should be removed and turned over and screwed down even with the top of the stud. Then you can use some soft iron pipe and a small sledge to knock it loose without messing up the treads.



You may need to get a longer grease fitting unless your grease gun has a smaller than normal head.



If you have trouble lining up the drivers side stud, try jacking up the drivers side frame.

JJW, getting the track bar out isn't the problem for most people. It's getting it back in. I found that if you install the axle side first, you can start the engine and with one hand from under the truck turn the steering shaft (Careful, spinning stuff close by) until the ball join lines up with the tapered hole in the bracket on the frame. With your other hand slide that baby in and start the nut. It worked well for me, hope it helps.

The passenger side end of the bar can be a bear to remove. If beating on it doesn't get it use a pitman arm puller. On the rigs that I've replaced the track bar on I have always had to resort to the puller.

I have put 5 trackbars on my 94 4x4-than went to adjustable bar.

To remove the taper side, loosen nut a couple turns than take a

bar of steel about 4ft long and hit with sledgehammer. It will come off. happy track bar

I have installed LukesLinks on 2 Rams and found them to be excellent. I found that the best way to seperate the ball joint stud is a pickle fork. The instructions provide by Jonny Lluke are excellent, follow them and you wont go wrong.
