LOL, the longer you go the thicker wall you should use 1/4" might work up to 5' like Justin stated, but probably wouldn't work so grate at 10' I have seen 7' bend with 1/4" wall, and on a Duramax no less :D

When I build mine I think I'll be on the over kill side of things as well... .

I'm going to find a local tractor supply house and get some 3pt hitch heims.

Tractor links are made for tractors, not truck suspensions!

They are pretty weak compared to a decent Heim joint.

Search on the Pirate webboard, decent prices for heims there as well as other parts.

jwilliams3; Plan on same thing I've been doing... ... ... 1/4 mile but some day I might try a sled. I remember looking at Tomacs truck in Diesel Power and those looked pretty sweet. I just figured they were larger than 1 1/4.

I priced some steel today and for . 25 or 3/8" wall it will be DOM tube. Guy wasn't sure on a price, he's supposed to get back with me.

I bought some 1. 25 OD . 25 wall a couple years back and it was around $8 a foot if I remember right.

I'm guessing the 1. 5 od . 25 with the steel prices now a days will probably be $10-15 a foot. ( I hope not more)

The ****ty thing is that they will only do 20 foot sticks too, so maybe I'll be able to split the cost with someone else around here that wants some traction bars.

I'm going to shop around though, because I could have sworn HREW tube came in . 25 wall. (guy was saying thickest he had was a bit over 1/8"). I'm considering 1. 5x1. 5 square tube even... . my Jeep is all square tube for the suspesion :D

all my recipts went with the truck and I can't remember what I paid for the 2" DOM by 1/2" wall, I do know that I could by it by the foot though.

I have been looking for a good strong "cheap" set of traction bars for a while, and have thought about making my own. I might be able to split the cost with you, let me know what you come up with.
