I don't belive there is such a thing as a good modern deere. You may try a search on "tractor salvage" If you go to red power and ask they'll send you in the right direction as there are a couple green guys that spend quite a bit of time there, overall it's a pretty good bunch of guys. If you go to yesterdays tractors they have a section on all the differant makes also. The harvesting.com site I listed above also covers JD, NH, CAT ect. Jake

:-laf I've always felt that way about red tractors, the only times I have liked the red ones is right after I climbed out of a blue one :-laf

The biggest POS I ever had to deal with was a TW-25 Ford, two IH 5488's were a close second, the 7800 Deere I'm running now is the first green tractor I've had trouble with :(

Anybody have opinions, pro or con, on a less than 10 year old tractor around 140-155 hp? I need to add a tractor and am considering all brands except Ford.

J. D. 4955 and 4960 are pretty damn good tractors. We have 2 4955's and they are trouble free, lots of power and very fuel efficent.

Although I really like the Deere 8000 and 8020/9020 series tractors we run, I'm still partial to the 55/60 series tractors.

We used to have 7810 w/ MFWD and PQ transmission. Good tractor, for the most part, but hated the engine. Started GREAT in the cold, but a gutless pig for any tillage, or for even pulling the 400bu. grain cart we used to have. Was great for pulling the 15' batwing, running the grain vac, haying, and more "chore" type work.

I like the C-IH Magmums and the 9270 tractors also. The 8. 3L Cummins (or N-14 in the 92) is my favorite part. :D Man, can they pull. Oo.

I could easily have 10,000 hrs seat time in 4650's, we use my neighbors 4560 quite often, great tractor :)

My 7800 engine has been fine, pulls hard and good on fuel, over 8000 hrs now and still in great shape. Very nice tractor to operate, reliability has been poor, not much machine down time but tons of small stuff to fix between work :( we never worked on the 4650's.

The last IH I was around was brand new for the '94 season, It seemed to be a fine machine, over 200hp Magnum I think?, I was only around it that one year.

My M-F dealer situation is dismal, probably not likely. Are the new Challenger wheel tractors made by M-F? I have a Hungry Challenger dealer so that might work.

We are all alfalfa, 750 acres of our own and 270 of custom work so I only do about 125 acres a year of heavy tillage. I need a 540 pto and 145 hp is fine so the 4555 and larger Deere's don't really make sense, maybe a well kept 4455.
