Nothing at all wrong with my '03 2500 but, our dealer has three 3500 SRW LB SLT 5spd/4. 10 SOs on the lot and they're anxious to move them. Seems everyone wants 4X4 or HOs so the price keeps falling on these. One is Patriot Blue/Silver, one white/silver and one timberline green/silver. All have pwr seat, Infinity stereo, leather wrap steering wheel and some other nice options.

I've lost alot of sleep wondering if I should trade. The standard output Cummins is plenty for towing our 5th wheel. I prefer a standard transmission but backing into our yard concerns me with the clutch and the weight of our 5th. I don't want to burn a clutch out. The automatic is great for grunt work.

What do I have to gain? I'd go from 2500 to 3500, leather wrap steering wheel, Infinity stereo, flat load floor, and the 5spd.

I had a 5spd in a '98 2500 12v Cummins. I prefer towing with a standard transmission but it had one dawback. It would chatter backing our lighter 7,000 lb 5th wheel in the yard. If I revved the motor a little it reduced the chatter and spring wrap-up but I worried about overheating the clutch. Our current 5th wheel is pushing 11,000 lbs loaded. If not for that concern I'd probably be sporting a new Patriot Blue 3500 with 5spd/4. 10.

I would not worry about the clutch. I understand that the clutch on the 5 speed is tougher than the clutdh on the 6 speed. Go for it.
