Hi I have a 04 with chrome rims and Michelin tires 3000 miles on them I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading the silver painted rimes and possibly trading the Black grill for a chrome if you have it I purchased the SLT but perfer the ST trim this is a good deal for the right person tires must be in near new cond as are mine I will be off line but can be reached at 815 355 4110 cell I am in the Chicago area and interested in a local trade David Okkema:)

I would be interested, my tires may have more miles than you want and I am in MA. I have 12K on them, they were rotated twice at 5K each time. If you are interested let me know.

I would be interested,I have the ST package but with the bright grill, but I do have the silver painted rims and I got 900 miles on the tires.

This is slightly off subject but in the same vein, so today I looked under my SLT at the spare tire, I have the chrome clad rims on the ground but the spare is the black painted ST version, this means I can't rotate my tires without the truck looking like a piece of crap!! has anyone noticed this gyp on their truck?

I think this is standard practice. It was this way on the 2nd gens as well.

I keep the tires on the same side to keep em rolling the same direction. Never included a spare in the rotation. I've never stuck with the stock tire size long anyway.

aahhhmmm, well I guess I need to look a little closer tomorrow, but I would think that the spare wheel would have the same spoke pattern even if they don't have the chrome covers, it looks like the chrome plated covers are like any other cap and are removable? I get a gut feeling this is another way the manufacturer is screwing the consumers, they put the cheapest "off the shelf" generic wheel on the spare instead of something that matches the wheels that show, probably if I dig a little I'll find that a matching wheel is an optional purchase. :(

I read an article, but I cannot find it now, that says when you buy a new vehicle, even if the tires say Michelin,BF Goodrich or whatever, they MAY not be of the same good workmanship of tires that you would buy to replace the factory tires.

I thought it was interesting.

I have heard the same thing. Interesting indeed.

My father retired at 33 years with GoodYear. I grew up around GoodYear, and you are right... . the original equipment tires are generally inferior to what is sold to the public as replacement... . but, this was 30 years ago... . what it is today is anyone's guess.

I bought a spare aluminum wheel, mounted the spare tire on it, and I work it into the rotation pattern. I love this method. :)

Yep, good idea, I think I'll look for a totalled Ram with the same wheels I have and put my spare Michelin on it, it seems a shame to let a new tire rot under the truck.

Use that Spare

Ryan's idea is good, but if you don't come across a extra wheel an are planning on using same brand an size tires just keep the best (one) of the old tires for spare an use the new spare with the three new tires. Drop the spare down periodically an clean it up, then Armor All it, or whatever tire care product, to keep it from weather cracking until you need a new set. :D
