Well after having my first gen from new in 1992 and 200K miles later here I am with a new 05. All I can say is they sure screwed up a nice truck. My 92 will beat the 05 in 0 to 70. The close ratio 6sp trans is nice but the 3. 73 rear end is not right for this engine. 2050rpm at 70mph they need to lower this to about 1800rpm. Needs a little more head room getting in to the cab. The grill has to be the cheapest that I have seen. Buy the way I would not give you

2$ for a Ford I just wish Dodge would fix a few things on the new trucks. Fuel mileage has hit 20. 3 at 70mph empty.

I have found towing you need to be above 2000rpms when you get into hilly areas, these engines don't seem to mind higher rpms either, I see little change in mileage between 2000rpm and 2500rpm empty.

My mileage sucks at any RPM but I still would take this truck over my 1990 and my 1998 any day! ;) :-laf :-laf :-laf

Stock vs. stock? No way! Realize that the sluggishness off the line with the post 2004 motors is due to more stringent EPA standards (waiting for air before fueling). For less than 500 bucks you can wake your '05 up to the point your '92 couldn't come close to hangin. That said, the '02s were a nice year, and I miss the loud rumble, but I wouldn't ever go back to a VP44 truck after having this '05 for just a week. I believe the potential in these trucks is just being realized and they will prove to be the most fuel efficient and powerful CTD's made with a few mods. Good luck with your decision. :)

I love it when people post how thier highly modifed year x truck is faster than a new one! Talk about completely irrelevant. 160/420 vs 325/610 = not even close. My buddies '93 couldn't keep up enough to read the licence plate on my '01, which in turn, isn't even in the same league as my '03 HO, and my '04. 5 is a little stronger yet. This is all making me wonder what the difference in 1/4 mile times between a 1st gen and a 600, my guess is maybe 5 seconds?
