Floor it, I guess thats why they make both chocolate and vanilla ice cream cause not everybody likes vanilla. The actual torque specs on both motors is the same except that the 24v has more. It even peaks at the same place. I know alot of people like the 12v motor, I had one for several years and really liked it. But having left it totally stock when I test drove my first 24v with the same transmission and gears the 24v was simply stronger, even pulling at 13 thousand the 24v would be farther down the road faster than the 12v could manage. Remember I'm not knocking the 12v their a great motor but stock for stock the 12v will forever be in second place... ... ..... Pete

I've got 260 miles on my new truck now and the more I drive it the more I like it. The auto in my '95 would go straight through the gears and into O/D. There it would fall flat on it's face towing anything. This one to my surprise, locks up the TC clutch it third and holds it there until I get up the about 55mph even under light throttle. If I want it to go ahead and shift to O/D, just let off the throttle for a couple of seconds and it drops down to lumber speed. It's great! It's definately set up for towing in the shift program. It keeps the rpm up until you tell it to do otherwise. No need for a mystery switch in this one like I had in the '95. When I crawled under it to check things out, I was very happy to see a deep transmission pan. It looks like a washtub compared to the shallow pan on the '95. Maybe I've been lucky in the power department in all three of my DCs. The '95 was acceptable, the '98 5spd/4. 10 was more than powerful enough to tow our 5th wheel 70mph against the wind uphill and full of water with power to spare. This one even with the auto and 3. 55 ratio I think will do great with the 5th wheel the way the transmission is setup. Big pan, firm shifts, lockup in third, towmode like operation... Maybe the folks at Dodge are reading our posts and taking notice of what the customer wants. That or they tooks some cues from the Allison. I like reading the posts and all the different opinions. I also know where there's a great '98 12v with 5spd for $17995. There is nothing wrong with the truck and it's ready for work or to be bombed. Sure would like to see one of y'all snap it up and keep it in the family of TDR members.
